Chappaqua CSD is looking for a dynamic & innovative literacy expert to serve in the probationary position of Elementary School Reading Teacher for Grades K-4.

Skills/Knowledge/Experience

  • Knowledge of the reading and writing workshop models, gradual release, as well as differentiated instruction based upon student learning styles.
  • Knowledge and experience implementing reading interventions to support identified students.
  • Knowledge of the TC Units of Study, LLI, Wilson and other research based literacy instructional support resources.
  • Promotes a classroom environment that is safe and conducive to individualized and small group instruction, and student learning.
  • Ability to review various data points (i.e. - running records) to develop a targeted intervention plan for an elementary student in need of support in reading.
  • Can administer educational evaluations to use as a basis for making eligibility determinations.
  • Assists in developing Individual Education Plans ("IEP") for students with goals that student specific and informed by various data points.
  • Continues to engage in meaningful professional learning opportunities through readings, workshops, podcasts, conferences, and an active professional learning network.
  • Encourages parental involvement in students' education and ensures effective communication with students and parents.
  • Organizes and maintains a system for accurate and complete record-keeping, grading, and reporting for all student activities, achievement and attendance as required by district procedures and applicable laws.
  • Coordinates with other professional staff members, especially within grade level, and participates in faculty meetings and committees.

Experience:
  • Successful prior reading teacher experience with students who require reading interventions to address decoding and comprehension gaps.

Certification/License:
  • New York State Certification as a Literacy (B - 6).
