ASSIGNMENT: This assignment will be responsible for teaching standards-based instruction STEAM (Science, Technology, Engineering, Arts (General music or Art, Math) to elementary students (grades K-6), potentially in multiple schools. Candidate will teach the district curriculum as well as collaborate to develop a STEAM curriculum model. Knowledge and proficiency of instructional technology is critical to all instructional models and programs. All teaching staff are expected to be contributing members of the school and grade level team's Professional Learning Communities and participate in related professional development.

ADDITIONAL INFORMATION: This position is part of the KEA bargaining unit.

REQUIRED QUALIFICATIONS: Appropriate Washington State certification and must be on file prior to beginning work.
  1. K-8 Elementary Education


PREFERRED QUALIFICATIONS:

  1. STEAM/STEM certification
  2. K-12 music certification
  3. Background in Allied Arts and/or K-12 Visual Arts endorsement
  4. ELL endorsement.
  5. Experience with a variety of classroom music methodologies: Orff, Kodaly, Music Learning Theory, etc.
  6. Experience teaching STEAM/STEM curricula or teaching in a Maker's Space
  7. Knowledge of, and/or experience with Problem Based Learning (PBL) and Collaborative/Cooperative Learning Models.
  8. Excellent instructional technology skills
  9. Experience working with elementary school students.
  10. Experience working in urban public education.
  11. Experience working with diverse populations. Ability to exhibit multicultural and ethnic understanding and sensitivity with the ability to communicate effectively with all cultural groups in the school community.
  12. Ability to encourage participation from students from diverse backgrounds and levels.
  13. Willing to share professional knowledge and skills with other staff members.
  14. Must have experience with or willingness to participate in integrated programs and/or team teaching.
  15. Must maintain positive learning environment and have ability to relate to all students, parents, and colleagues.
  16. Desired teacher characteristics: flexibility; ability to organize ideas, time and materials to accomplish goals; enthusiasm; ability to express ideas clearly and understand concepts being discussed; ability to learn new ideas and skills; ability and willingness to develop favorable relationships with students; knowledge of current approaches to teaching; and willingness to model behavior deemed appropriate by the school district and the community.
