Manager, Research - Measurement and Quantitative Sciences (Remote)

The Manager, Measurement and Quantitative Sciences resides in Research & Development and leads a talented team of researchers with deep expertise in fields such as psychometrics, measurement theory, and computational statistics. The larger R&D team is made up of learning scientists, measurement scientists, and software engineers who collaborate to design, build, and validate measurement systems that support student learning in the classroom.

The Manager, Measurement Science is a recognized leader and scholar, with a track record of demonstrated leadership to build NWEA's national reputation for research and innovation. He/she/they must possess inspirational and culture-building leadership skills to foster an environment of collegiality and productivity across the Research team while expanding the team's influence internally and externally.

Responsibilities
  • Leads a team of measurement scientists to execute against a growing portfolio of mission-critical internal projects.
  • Actively builds and maintains a supportive and nurturing work environment for NWEA's measurement scientists.
  • Represents measurement science at NWEA publicly and participates in conferences, seminars, and other activities to maintain and enhance NWEA's research-driven reputation.
  • Work with the Director of Research & Development to develop budgets, monitor expenditures, and oversee contracts and partnerships.
  • Collaborates internally with Policy & Advocacy, Marketing, Psychometric Solutions, Strategy, Partner Accounts, Product Management, and other teams to set strategic priorities and raise the visibility of the Measurement Science team.
  • Participate on the Extending Research Management team consisting of VPs, Directors, and Managers across Research.

Education and Experience
  • PhD. in quantitative psychology, educational measurement, or related field with prior research work focused on educational measurement, educational testing, and/or quantitative psychology
  • Seven to ten years of extensive experience and proven leadership in the field of education research
  • A track record of professional achievement through presentations at professional conferences and publications in professional journals or equivalent
  • Experience conducting applied research and meeting related deliverables
  • Ability to explain complex measurement and statistical concepts to a variety of audiences
  • Experience in management or supervisory positions a plus
