Position: Bus Driver
Location: Transportation
Terms of employment: Full-time, 180 days
FLSA: Non-exempt
Reports to: Director of Transportation

Qualifications:
  • Education: High school diploma or GED
  • Experience: Two years experience as a substitute school bus driver or bus driver
  • Certification/License Required: Must possess a valid Georgia driver's license or CDL
  • Physical Activities: Routine Physical Activities that are required to fulfill job responsibilities.
  • Knowledge, Skills, & Abilities: Written and Oral Communication; instructional strategies that connect the curriculum to the learners; student management.
  • Such alternatives to the above qualifications as the Board may find appropriate

Performance Reponsibilites:
  • Exercise maximum regard for the safety and welfare of all transported students while operating a school bus.
  • Work closely with Transportation and the school principals regarding hazards encountered on bus routes.
  • Conduct thorough pre-trip inspection of the vehicle and its special equipment to ensure operating properly.
  • Inform Transportation regarding any suggested changes in route schedules or bus loads.
  • Assist other school bus drivers with their routes in cases of emergencies.
  • Obey all traffic laws.
  • Posess the physical and mental capability of operating all school buses assigned to Transportation.
  • Keep assigned bus clean and sanitary at all times.
  • Comply with Georgia Department of Education School Board Regulations and School Board policies pertaining to school bus driver certification and responsibility.
  • Attends all bus driver safety meetings and bus driver training sessions.
  • Submit to Drug and/or Alcohol testing when required by School Board ,State and/or Federal policy.
  • Communicate effectively with the school,staff and the public.
  • Inspect the school bus at the end of each run to ensure that no student is left on the bus.
  • Operates school bus in accordance with the laws of Georgia and in accordance with policies prescribed in the Thomasville City School District under all types of weather conditions including but not limited to sun, fog, rain, sleet, hail, snow and ice.
  • Abides by procedures and policies regarding the safe and orderly operation of the bus including pick up and drop off procedures and loading and unloading procedures.
  • Conducts emergency evacuation drills as required.
  • Reports delays or accidents to the Transportation Coordinator in a timely manner.
  • Perform other duties as assigned by the Transportation Coordinator or Designee.
