Elma High School
Student Support Specialist
Monday through Friday
7 hours per day
In accordance with Governor Inslee's Proclamation 21-14.1 (Vaccination Requirement), employment with the Elma School District requires full vaccination against Covid-19 or an approved medical or religious exemption that can be accommodated.
Job Summary:
The Student Support Specialist will provide student intervention support to high school students to ensure that students are on track to graduation and have the support they need. Such services will include identification of students who are at risk of not graduating because they are falling behind, gathering the appropriate staff and parents to develop a student-specific support plan, monitoring implementation of the support plan, and documenting the plan and the steps taken to implement the plan. The Student Support Specialist will also perform other assigned duties with supervision from the high school principal. Job responsibilities may vary related to students' needs and time of the year. Duties may include weekends and evenings. These duties include data analysis utilizing Excel and other data programs, work with community agencies, work with staff, students, mentor program and other school districts.

Job Duties:
- Coordinate process to identify, assess, intervene and monitor students who are off track
- Contact community resource organizations and agencies for the purpose of soliciting and obtaining their help
- Become familiar with school-wide existing interventions and services and utilize them effectively
- Gather and analyze relevant data through use of electronic-based data systems and documents to assess student progress, maintain records and intervene as necessary
- Regularly utilize various means of communication with students that positively reinforces progress or alerts them to the need for further interventions
- Serve as lead liaison in organizing communication and collaboration between students, parents and school staff
- Other duties as assigned
- High School diploma or GED
- Meets one of the following:
- A two year Assoicate Degree and/or
- 72 college quarter credits and/or 48 college credits and/or
- A passing score of 461 on the ETS Para Pro Assessment
- Ability to communicate positively and accurately orally and in writing in English and Spanish
- Ability to work well and collaboratively with students, staff and parents
- Ability to maintain confidentiality
- Documented demonstration of core competency requirements
- Regular attendance is an essential function for this position
- The safety and health of students and others in an essential function of this position
- Bilingual preferred
- Ability to maintain a positive and compassionate disposition
- Ability to accurately prepare and maintain various records, reports and files using technology
- Ability to maintain regular attendance
- Able to work independently
- Ability to identify, organize, plan, implement, and document student support plans to ensure student success
- Ability to multi-task, prioritize competing demands, and ensure that plans are followed through
- Demonstrate an ability to deescalate upset, angry, and/or emotionally compromised students
- Experience in academic tutoring
- Experience in building rapport and trust with students, parents and staff
- Experience working with students with multiple challenges and willingness to participate in additional training
- Experience, qualifications and/or training in serving youth with mental health issues
- Experience developing and implementing programs directly related to student success
