The Office of Teaching and Learning provides school administrators and teachers with the professional learning and resources needed to engage students in rich and rewarding learning experiences. The office is comprised of various academic and support departments, which work collaboratively to support students' growth and progress in meeting or exceeding state standards for academic excellence.

Reporting to the Executive Director of Teaching and Learning Systems and Supports, the Systems Analyst, Grading Processes and Data will work closely with the Grading Practice and Policy Coordinators in the planning, implementation, and project management of a district grading policy and an equity action plan to address and adjust the district's current grading practices.

The Systems Analyst, Grading Processes and Data will be held accountable for the following responsibilities:
  • Collaborate with other CPS departments to develop system processes to enhance district visibility and monitoring capabilities in alignment with policy and best practices
  • Collaborate with other CPS departments to identify and prioritize system changes and enhancements needed to facilitate the district's strategic initiatives related to evolving grading practices, including the development of technical specifications, and business rule development
  • Collaborate with Policy and Information and Technology Services (ITS) teams to develop a process owner map of key functionalities in Aspen related to grading
  • In partnership with the ITS, develop and facilitate technical end-user training for teachers utilizing the Gradebook system in Aspen
  • In partnership with ITS, ONS Network Data Strategist and other collaborators, provide support for end-user inquiries regarding Gradebook functionality in Aspen
  • Support grading data analysis to inform policy development and practice continuous improvement
  • Other duties as assigned


In order to be successful and achieve the above responsibilities, the Systems Analyst, Grading Processes and Data must possess the following qualifications:

Education Required:
  • Bachelor's degree from an accredited college or university
  • Master's degree or Project Management Professional (PMP) certification preferred

Experience Required:
  • Minimum of four (4) years of experience with school information systems and/or data analysis, including the following, is required:
    • Experience with the delivery of training programs using a variety of instructional techniques
    • Experience with project management software tools, methodologies, and best practices

Knowledge, Skills, and Abilities:
  • Strong analytical skills, including the ability to define problems, analyze data, and outline valid conclusions and action steps in order to solve problems creatively
  • Strong communication skills (speaking - including presentations - listening, and writing)
  • Demonstrate high levels of integrity, honesty, credibility, and the courage to make difficult yet necessary decisions
  • Strong strategic planning and project management skills, including the ability to set goals, establish a project timeline and manage activities toward goal fulfillment Knowledge of operations, management and organizational development
  • Fluent in Microsoft Excel for data manipulation, analysis, and charting


Conditions of Employment

As a condition of employment with the Chicago Public Schools (CPS), employees are required to:
  • Establish/Maintain Chicago Residency - Employees are required to live within the geographic boundaries of the City of Chicago within six months of their CPS hire date and maintain residency throughout their employment with the district. This Chicago residency requirement does not apply to part-time/temporary positions, however, all CPS employees must be residents of Illinois.
  • Be Fully Vaccinated Against COVID-19 - Unless approved for a medical or religious exemption, all employees are required to be up-to-date on COVID-19 vaccinations, including boosters, and to submit proof of vaccination to the district within 30 days of hire. "Up-to-date" on vaccination is defined as being at least two weeks past all primary vaccine doses and any applicable boosters. Unvaccinated staff with an approved exemption must submit to weekly testing.


CPS Non-Union Job Grade: S07
Estimated Annual Salary Range: $66,000 - $87,500
FLSA Classification: Exempt
Final salary offers are dependent upon candidate qualifications.
