E ssential Functions and Objectives:

B road responsibility for leading a team of managers to execute against the overall business plan, based on guidance from leadership. Directs, plans and oversees team initiatives, to ensure implementation and administration of programs align with district goals.

R esponsible for managing and directing athletics programs in district middle or high schools. Provides leadership and otherwise assists local school and district-wide administrators, staff, students and parents in the development and maintenance of an effective program of student athletics and youth motivation in each school across the District. Responsible for athletics recruitment, motivation, training and evaluation, building a culture of sportsmanship and professionalism.

- Establishes, administers and ensures an effective interscholastic program of middle or high school athletics across the District; selects, trains and evaluates coaches.

- Consults systematically with communities, administrators, faculty sponsors of student athletics and students in middle or high schools in order to help each school develop and maintain an effective program of student athletics.

- Prepares and administers middle or high school athletic program funds and fee collection, providing budget oversight and accurate tracking and financial reporting; coordinates purchase of trophies, athletic equipment, clothing and related materials.

- Develops and administers eligibility standards for student participation, including support systems at each school.

- Assists with the review and revision of Denver Public Schools Athletic League Constitution, Bylaws and Standing Rules.

- Ensures the enforcement of local, state and federal laws and regulations pertaining to middle and high school facilities usage; coordinates athletic schedules for common facility usage, upholding equitable standards; coordinates usage of public facilities with Denver Parks and Recreation, as needed.

- Monitors safety and risk management issues in order to provide proactive solutions.

- Represents the District on related committees; helps guide the Denver Public Schools Athletic League Board of Control in administering the athletic program and in coordinating the annual Coaches Conference.

- Works with principals and athletic directors on athletic activities during the school year and coordinates sponsorship of cheerleaders, pompons and pep clubs as well as the sports medicine program.

- Helps ensure Title IX compliance, specifically with regard to the athletic program.

K nowledge, Experience & Other Qualifications:

- Five (5) or more years coaching and athletic program management experience, with at least three (3) years leadership and management experience, is required.

- Urban school district administration experience is required.

- Professional Principal or Administrator's License is required.

- Certified Athletic Administrator (CAA) Certification is required.

- Colorado Teaching and Administrator licensure is preferred.

- Knowledge of applicable laws and regulations.

- Experience in analyzing data, and using this data to for process and program improvements and to inform strategy.

- Outstanding facilitation and communication skills, including ability to inspire others.

- Strong interpersonal, coaching and leadership skills, including the ability to lead a high-performing team.

- Strong inter-personal skills and ability to work with individuals at all different levels in the organization.

- Self-starter/leader who can anticipate department needs in a proactive (versus, reactive) manner.

- Strategic planning and organizational development knowledge and skills.

- Ability to develop, plan, and implement short and long-range goals, establish priorities, and organize resources.

- Ability to motivate and influence others.

- Knowledge of Interscholastic athletics programs, including facilities requirements; rules and regulations governing athletics programs and student eligibility requirements is preferred.

E ducation Requirements:

- Bachelor's Degree in Education or related field is required.

- Master's Degree in Education or related field is preferred.
