EAST ST. LOUIS SCHOOL DISTRICT 189 TITLE: Specialized Programs Content Specialist CLASSIFICATION:

FLSA: DEPARTMENT: Special Education SALARY WORK YEAR: 200 days


DESCRIPTION: Under the direction of the Director of Special Education, the instructional coach will facilitate and
monitor the implementation of programs established to ensure the needs of children with disabilities are being met.
Responsibilities include but are not limited to coaching, problem solving and facilitating for instructional excellence in co-
taught classrooms, ensuring quality implementation of Learning Strategies, research and development of programs for
quality self-contained classrooms, collaborating with content area coaches, facilitate planning, facilitate implementation of
common core standards with students with special needs.

DESIRED QUALIFICATIONS: Illinois teacher certification or the ability to attain Illinois certification in the area of
special education. Four years or more of successful teaching experience in a variety of settings (Self -Contained, Co-
Teaching, SIM, Resource) and across grade levels (High School, Middle School and Elementary) is preferred. Experience
providing staff development and/or peer coaching is desirable. Candidate must be a team player, self-starter, dependable,
responsible, accountable and committed to continuous professional development as exemplified by regular attendance at
district staff development, regular and prompt participation in PLC's and/or continuing education in pursuit of additional
degrees.

DUTIES and RESPONSIBILITIES (May not include all duties performed)
1. Provide weekly in class coaching to all special education programs. Provide constructive feedback.
2. Become a resource for teachers
3. Provide weekly reports in writing (1page) to the Director of Special Education, highlighting challenges
and proposed actions as is appropriate
4. Assist with district staff development and meetings as needed
5. Communicate regularly with administrators regarding needs in their school to ensure the needs of
children are being met.
6. Assist in facilitating school based meetings regarding the instruction of children with disabilities
7. Research programs for improving instruction for students with more severe disabilities
8. Facilitate the development of "model" schools for the various special education programs
9. Facilitate opportunities for teachers to visit "model" schools
10. Facilitate parent understanding of inclusive education
11. Assist in the development of strategies for addressing assessment challenges of students with special
needs.
12. Assist in the "Analysis of Needs" process conducted for scheduling purposes
13. Facilitate the understanding of data driven instruction for students with disabilities
14. Provide leadership for expanding inclusive education services
15. Work collaboratively with district consultant for inclusive education
16. Participate in weekly department meetings

WORKING CONDITIONS:
The employee is required to sit, stand, walk and use the computer. Reading and making reports are required.
Daily travel is required between buildings and offices. The employee must frequently synthesize complex
material and make recommendations.
