Summary:
Responsible for utilizing the computer to perform daily, weekly, and monthly functions, assist
in training and directing kitchen employees with daily duties, and taking responsibility when
production manager or kitchen manager is absent. Responsible for receiving deliveries and
following required sanitation and safety practices for employees and the facility. Responsible
for responding to customer complaints and comments and ensuring all budget and cash
procedures are followed. Maintains and monitors kitchen facility and equipment. May assist
with translation and/or communication using second language skills when possible.
Essential Duties and Responsibilities

Wkly 20%

Responsible for production manager and kitchen manager duties in their
absence, including monitoring emails and voicemails, responding to
customer's requests as well as directing staff with assigned duties and
tasks.

Daily 20%

Assist in leading and directing kitchen staff in all aspects of food
preparation (batch cooking, restocking/replenishing salad bar between
meal times, etc.). Ensure temperatures are documented and confirm
thermometers are calibrated appropriately. Monitor proper food
portioning for mealtime and service.

Daily 20%

Utilize the computer to perform daily and weekly functions, including
running the point of sale program for breakfast and lunch, putting deposits
into the accounts, printing keypad cards for students, ensure menu
production worksheets are completed accurately, and printing end of day
tallies for menu worksheets.

Wkly 5% Assist with hiring and disciplining including documenting appropriate

employee correspondence

Daily 5%

Implement proper sanitation and kitchen safety programs as defined by
federal, state, and local guidelines and rules including the Nutrition Services
HAACP program.

Wkly 10%

Review food delivery orders, making sure to follow required food delivery
procedures. Responsible for monitoring and maintaining kitchen
equipment and facility for proper temperatures, cleanliness, and
operations.

Wkly 5% Assist in training of Nutrition Service Assistants
Daily 5% Arrange end-of-day reports. Attend department meetings and continue to

follow state, federal, and continuing education requirements
Daily 5% Ensure cash handling procedures are followed per Nutrition Services

Financial Procedures Handbook.

Yrly 4% Maintain and monitor budget/accounts for assigned kitchen(s) including

reimbursements.

Yrly 1% Perform other duties as assigned.
EDUCATION AND
TRAINING: High school diploma or equivalent

EXPERIENCE:

One year and up to and including two years of experience in
school food service cooking, expanding recipes, customer service
and sanitation or food service management. Must have strong
math skills including addition, subtraction, multiplication,
division, and fractions. Must have computer skills including
Microsoft Word, Excel, e-mail, and district enrollment system.
School food service experience preferred.

SKILLS, KNOWLEDGE,
EQUIPMENT & OTHER:

Possess basic communication and interpersonal skills, be able to
follow instructions, both verbally and written. Basic math, basic
reading and supervisory skills are necessary. Must be able to
possess basic personal computer knowledge within two months
of hire. Must understand the fundamentals of culinary operation,
including operating knowledge of kitchen equipment, within one
month of hire. Possess the basic ability to understand
documents, define problems and draw valid conclusions. Must
be able to work under pressure in a fast-paced environment,
where teamwork is essential. English language skills required.
Oral and written fluency in second language may be preferred or
required based on building assignment.
