The Director of Transportation is responsible for the delivery of safe and efficient transportation of students. This position provides leadership and skillful management of all student transportation including the development and implementation of efficient routing, driver assignments with budgeting constraints and maintenance of vehicles.

Position oversight also includes the training of Bus Drivers, support staff, as well as the creative development of transportation programs for students to support educational activities.

Additional Job Information : *Demonstrated leadership skills including ability to facilitate and promote collaborative decision-making, make effective independent decisions, analyze complex situations and synthesize diverse information, promote consensus among groups of individuals with diverse interests and values, provide guidance and direction to staff, facilitate conflict resolution, inspire and support staff in carrying out school and department goals.
*Skills in effective oral and written communications including public speaking, organizing and coordinating workload, computer operation, and ability to learn and operate a variety of software programs.
*Supervise all functions of the transportation department. Develop and implement an organizational structure and appropriate procedures to insure quality service while maintaining the best use of resources.
*Develop and administer budgets designed to implement long range transportation plans and goals.
*Develop and supervise in cooperation with principals, a system for maintaining acceptable student behavior standards on all school buses.
*Plan, direct and implement vehicle scheduling and allocations, dispatching, licensing and communication functions in accordance with established policies and objectives to effect economical vehicle utilization.
*Formulate policies, program and procedures for the Transportation System, including schedules, routes, assignment of drivers and vehicles, and other operations.
*Maintain and monitor school bus maintenance agreements.
*Work with school administrators, parents and students in an effort to resolve or prevent misconduct and unsafe conditions which involve the Transportation system.
*Conduct regular analysis of vehicle and driver assignments and analyze scheduling to insure increased efficiency and lower costs.
*Provide safety programs and training courses for drivers.
*Conduct accident investigations and supervise accident reporting to appropriate administrative staff, law enforcement and insurance agencies.
*Evaluate all personnel under his/her supervision at least annually.
*Meet with parents, the community, and outside agencies as appropriate to support the delivery of quality service.
*Interview and recommend selection of drivers; act upon leave requests; conduct performance evaluations and manage disciplinary issues as needed.
*Develop and implement public awareness activities such as public service announcements, awareness displays and community presentations.
*Perform such other related duties and assume such other related responsibilities as may be assigned by supervisor.

Qualifications : *Experience as a Bus Driver or like profession
*Preferred experience as a manager
*Valid and current Washington State Driver's License with CDL (Class B), P-1 and S endorsements.
*Valid and current DOT Medical Examiners Certificate.
*Possess (or be able to obtain within 60 days) and maintain First Aid certification.
*Possess thorough knowledge of current safety standards, law, codes, rules, regulations, policies and procedures relating to student transportation.
*Experience conducting investigations and writing reports.
