GENERAL PURPOSE

Responsible for providing support to the educational process with specific responsibilities for overseeing the individual health needs of students; implementing health care plans directed by physicians; ensuring district health care practices comply with the laws relating to student health issues; providing appropriate immediate care for ill, medically fragile and/or injured students. Serve as a health care resource to teachers, staff, and administrators; conducting mandated health screenings; identifying health problems for referral to appropriate parties for proper follow-up treatment; and promoting an optimal level of wellness for students and staff.

ESSENTIAL JOB FUNCTIONS

Administer mandated screenings referring medical conditions and/or providing appropriate care for ill, medically fragile and/or injured children.

Administer first aid, medication and specialized medical treatments providing appropriate care for ill, medically fragile and/or injured children.

Assess situations involving students' safety, abuse (physical, sexual, drug, etc.) and other health related issues identifying problems, referring for proper treatment and complying with legal requirements.

Collaborate with parents, students, health care providers, and/or public agencies promoting and/or securing student health services; providing information and complying with legal requirements.

Develop individual student care plans addressing students' health needs; providing direction to site personnel and/or and implementing directions provided by parents and/or physicians.

Assist with enrollment (immunizations, medical history).

Input student health care records into student information system maintaining accurate up to date information.

Maintain student's confidential files and records providing information required by legal requirements and professional standards.

Maintain contact with parents/guardians advising them of changes in student health and/or recommending further medical and/or emotional intervention.

Monitor student with chronic illnesses and/or referred for illness and/or injury attending to their immediate health care concerns, initiating follow-up care and assisting the child in achieving the highest functional level.

Order health care equipment and supplies maintaining inventory and ensuring availability of required items.

Participate in a variety of meetings, workshops and seminars gathering, conveying, and/or sharing information on student's health needs, service delivery, and educational programs; and/or improving skills and knowledge.

Prepare a wide variety of written materials documenting activities, providing written reference, and/or conveying information.

Provide training on a variety of health related subjects promoting a healthy lifestyle and/or acting as a resource to students, teachers, and other school personnel.

Refer students requiring additional medical attention providing required follow-up treatment and services.

Report health and safety issues to assigned administrator and appropriate agencies maintaining students' personal safety, a positive learning environment and complying with regulatory requirements and established guidelines.

Research a variety of topics relating to health and medical care providing information to staff, students, parents, and the public.

Respond to emergency medical situations ensuring appropriate immediate medical attention and related follow-up action.

Respond to a wide variety of inquiries from parents, students, staff, and/or outside agencies counseling, resolving problems, providing information and/or referring to appropriate personnel.

Serve as a liaison for doctors, parents, community agencies and/or staff providing and/or gathering information and assuring access and continuity of health care of students.

Perform other related duties as required/assigned.

QUALIFICATIONS AND REQUIREMENTS

Education and Experience

Associate's Degree from an accredited college or university for N120.

Bachelor of Science in Nursing Degree from an accredited college or university for N130.

Master's Degree from an accredited college or university for N140.

Minimum of two (2) years of job related experience with increasing levels of responsibility is required.

Certificates, Licenses and Other Special Requirements

Must be CPR and First Aid Certified.

Must have Missouri State Nursing License.

Must pass a Criminal Background Clearance.

Knowledge, Skills, and Abilities

Knowledge of algebra and/or geometry; read technical information, compose a variety of documents, and/or facilitate group discussions; and analyze situations to define issues and draw conclusions.

Working Conditions and Physical Requirements

Work environment is primarily indoors, where the noise and temperature levels are moderate.

The work is medium work that requires exerting up to 50 pounds of force occasionally, and/or up to 30 pounds of force frequently, and/or up to 10 pounds of force constantly to move objects.

Must possess the physical ability to work primarily with fingers, perceive the nature of sounds, make rational decisions through sound logic and deductive processes, express or exchange ideas by the spoken word, substantial movements (motions) with the hands, wrists, and/or fingers, and discern letters or numbers at a given distance.
