POSITION OVERVIEW:

As a member of the communications & marketing team, the manager of student recruitment is responsible for developing and implementing a comprehensive PreK3 - 8th grade student recruitment plan that aligns to our organization's enrollment and public affairs goals. This includes outreach, event planning, digital marketing (social, email, web, seo, etc.), collateral development, message development, and copywriting. The manager of student recruitment will work closely with school leaders, members of the marketing and communications team, community engagement team, and compliance team to build strong family demand for KIPP DC schools. They will be the primary point of contact to our paid media agency. They'll represent KIPP DC externally to potential families and partner with the compliance and school teams to ensure KIPP DC is fully enrolled.

The ideal candidate is an energetic, forward-thinking, and detail oriented individual. A strong results orientation and strong interpersonal skills are a must, as is an ability to work enthusiastically in a constantly changing environment and balance multiple priorities and competing deadlines. Additionally, possessing the capacity to think strategically coupled with the ability to excel operationally is critical for success in this role. This is an exempt role and reports to the managing director of communications and collaboration.

Job Description

KEY RESPONSIBILITIES:

Recruitment Project Management, Strategy, & Execution (60%)
  • In partnership with compliance and finance teams, set application benchmarks and routinely report progress to key stakeholders, including school leaders, KIPP DC's executive team, and others.
  • Develop annual student recruitment core messages and ensure their fidelity across the student recruitment and enrollment continuum.
  • Create and implement student recruitment marketing strategies, including: digital display and lead generation ads, email nurture campaigns, social media campaigns, print campaigns, radio, adwords, etc.
  • Devise open house and recruitment event strategy and partner with school leaders to ensure best-in-class execution.
  • Develop new marketing strategies to attract families to KIPP DC, with particular emphasis on PreK3 families.
  • Routinely engage prospective families to keep them excited and informed.


Direct Outreach (20%)
  • Represent KIPP DC at key community events, fairs, festivals, and other outreach events that bolster enrollment.
  • Develop, plan, and lead initiatives and events to reach prospective families by mobilizing the community engagement team, parent recruiters,and school leaders.
  • Train, empower, and coordinate members of our community to communicate KIPP DC's value proposition and multiply outreach efforts.


Partnership Development (10%)
  • Support the community engagement team to build and cultivate relationships with organizations to ensure their constituents are aware of the benefits of a KIPP DC education and the My School DC lottery process
  • Collaborate and communicate regularly with the community engagement team to identify upcoming events that help potential families learn more about KIPP DC.


Communications & Marketing Team Responsibilities (10%)
  • Maintain accurate and up-to-date records, budgets, and lead and applicant data to track effectiveness of recruitment tactics.
  • Develop and maintain operational systems to manage complex projects and report progress across to key stakeholders.
  • Participate in KIPP DC headquarters and external affairs-related activities, including staff meetings, professional development conferences and retreats, fundraising events, and other public relations opportunities.


Qualifications

SKILLS & QUALIFICATIONS:
  • Passion for education reform and the belief that every child can succeed; experience in K12 education strongly preferred
  • Three to five years of classroom teaching, marketing, sales, or recruitment-related experience with demonstrated success in leading effective campaigns required
  • Bachelor's degree required
  • Strong cultural competency skills, including ability to communicate and work effectively and cultivate relationships with a diverse set of stakeholders
  • Commitment to advancing KIPP DC's anti-racist ambition through their work with staff, students, alumni, and families
  • Strong leadership and interpersonal skills and an ability to take initiative, receive feedback, and seek out creative ideas
  • Excellent time management skills and a detail and results-oriented team player who is dedicated to getting the job done
  • Successful track record of collaboratively working with a wide range of stakeholders, both internal and external
  • Excellent written and verbal communication skills
  • Comfort with working in a fast-paced, nonprofit environment along with an outstanding ability to multi-task, prioritize, manage and execute projects at a high level
  • Willingness to travel between our seven campuses and attend weekend and evening events at our schools
