- A broad knowledge of general education curriculum and a solid foundation in early childhood development
- Thorough understanding and up to date knowledge of laws, regulations, and standards for secondary education
- Knowledge of current social studies education topics and methodologies

- Excellent interpersonal, oral and verbal communication skills
- Ability to maintain confidentiality
- Training in behavioral analysis and modification and experience working with children
- Proven problem-solving skills

- Prepare and grade coursework and assignments based upon district-adopted curriculum.
- Willingness to expand and develop both knowledge and subject matter to improve student learning.
- Assess student's skills, learning needs/requirements and set goals for effective instruction plans and ability to modify curriculum as needed on basic subjects using evidence-based techniques such as multisensory learning, repetition or phonetics for students of diverse backgrounds, interests, and learning needs in an inclusive settings.
- Establish clear expectations and objectives for all lessons, units, and projects, and communicate those to students.
- Ability to use different technologies and programs effectively to ensure the ability to integrate suitable use of such.
- Select reading and other curriculum-development materials, including textbooks, in accordance with local and state guidelines.
- Prepare students for standardized tests, working within the parameters of state and local requirements, and provide diagnostic feedback.
- Ability to manage classrooms and implement school procedures with diverse students and different learning abilities.
- Meet one-on-one with students to improve performance and address behavioral issues.
- Introduce STEAM-related topics.
- Incorporate new models of the inclusive classroom.
- Model acceptable social behaviors.
- Ability to utilize positive reinforcement and behavior modification and instruction techniques to develop positive changes in your students' academic and social development.
- Adapt learning materials to students' needs, look for engaging activities and resources that can be easily modified to each child's educational requirements. (similar to #3)
- Communicate, collaborate, and help coordinate with administration, school counselors, occupational therapists, psychologists, speech therapists, parents and other staff/resources matters that might impede students' progress in order to provide a more effective learning environment for students, especially special need students, to improve their potential and development, including but not limited to implementation of intervention plans and Individualized Educational Plans (IEPs).
- Prepare students for transition to the next grade.
- Consults with parents/guardians:
- Acts as a resource for information with regard to student's progress, potential problems, and/or transition to the next grade.
- Facilitate conferences with them.
- Is available for phone calls.
- Works with administration to report child abuse and follows up as needed.
- Ability to take precautions to protect students, equipment, materials and facilities, and keep accurate records in compliance with relevant laws, policies and regulations.
- Plan and supervise class projects, field trips, visits by guest speakers or other experiential activities, and guide students in learning from those activities.
- Organize and label materials, and display students' work.
- Participates as a member in student-related, school-based committees and staff meetings
- Continuous professional development.
- Flexibility in completing daily tasks.
- Experience in the use of technology, communications, and information systems to support student learning.
- Performs other duties as directed by the Superintendent or designee.
