FACILITIES MAINTENANCE

POSITION SALARY RANGE: $17.25 - $25.88

SUMMARY OF JOB DESCRIPTION:

Perform housekeeping services to maintain a clean and safe environment for students and staff.

SUPERVISED BY: School Principal, District Custodial Supervisor, Director of Facilities

SUPERVISION : Custodians

ESSENTIAL JOB ELEMENTS:
  • Schedule, direct, supervise and evaluate school custodians or substitute custodians.
  • Participate in the training and coaching of building custodians based on district standards.
  • Order and maintain an adequate inventory of supplies and materials needed to perform all custodial duties.
  • Identify and utilize correct cleaning materials for specific tasks. Ensure there is no alteration or mixing of chemicals and bottles are labeled correctly.
  • Clean school restrooms, locker rooms, gymnasiums, classrooms, doors, windows, whiteboards, trays, floors and counters and empty wastebaskets. .
  • Inspect and ensure the proper cleanliness and maintenance of the facility according to an established schedule and complete minor maintenance including, but not limited to the following:

- Submit cleaning supply and lamp orders
- Install and/or relocate boards, pencil sharpeners, shelves, maps
- Purchase and install chair glides, table feet, etc.
- Change lamps, diffusers, switch/cover plates
- Clean clay traps
- Add water/enzymes to floor drains - weekly
- Repair lockers and locker locks
- Repair furniture
- Conduct Site Safety Inspection items as assigned
- Tighten lock and door hardware as needed
- Plunge/auger toilets and drains
- Clean and complete minor repairs on custodial equipment
- Replace ceiling tiles, report any new leaks
  • Schedule assignments and/or special projects for the no student days during the school year.
  • Clean cafeteria at the conclusion of the lunch period.
  • Monitor and inspect the building according to the district's custodial standards.
  • Plan and implement the summer, spring, winter cleaning and maintenance schedule but not limited to the following:

- Wash all painted wall surfaces
- Wash all lockers inside and outside
- Wash all shelves, counter tops, cabinet doors, sinks
- Wash all classroom door, door jambs, window sills
- Wash windows inside and outside
- Remove and wash light fixture covers and tubes
- Replace any burned out bulbs
- Clean inside teacher office area
- Wash window blinds with soap and water
- Make any small repairs as needed
- Encapsulate/Shampoo carpets
- Strip wax from tile areas, re-wax and buff
- Wash all trash cans
- High reach dusting
- Refinish gymnasium floors
  • Complete and prepare written documentation/inspection regarding walk through for supervisor.
  • Initiate work orders for building repairs, which cannot be performed by the custodial staff.
  • Unlock the facility on a regularly scheduled basis and secure at the end of business day. Ensure the security of the building at all times.
  • Maintain effective communication with direct supervisors, students, staff members, vendors and the public.
  • Give feedback for custodian end of year performance reviews and evaluations.
  • Police grounds and report landscaping issues, pick up trash as needed.
  • Generate, inspect and replace/repair materials and small and large equipment as needed.
  • Remove snow and ice with equipment or shovel.
  • Maintain the SDS binder updated. Fill out the chemical hygiene plan and chemical inventory sheet before the beginning of the school year.
  • Supervise arrangements for school assemblies, activities, and room usage as directed.
  • Complete all tasks in a safe manner.
  • Perform other duties assigned by the School Principal, District Custodial Supervisor or the Director of Facilities.

QUALIFICATIONS:
  • High school diploma or equivalent or job related experience.
  • Effective communication and interpersonal skills.
  • Physical ability to perform all job functions.
  • 2 years custodial experience, including 6 months supervisory experience or custodial employment in Eagle County School District.
  • Ability to read and speak limited English.
