INSTRUCTIONAL TECHNOLOGY FACILITATOR

FUNCTIONAL PURPOSE:

Instructional Technology Facilitators support the school's overall vision for ensuring every public school student will graduate from high school, globally competitive for work and post-secondary education and prepared for life in the 21st century. They promote technology-enabled teaching and learning that includes use of best instructional practices and access to current information and technology tools.

ESSENTIAL DUTIES
• Aligns the mission, strategic plan, resources and activities of the instructional technology program with the North Carolina Essential Standards and Common Core.
• Serves as a leader in the planning, implementation and deployment of a 21st century digital conversion, including devices, curriculum, pedagogy, professional development and appropriate digital resources.
• Evaluates and collaboratively selects digital tools and resources based on professional best practices and relevant data.
• Ensures the instructional technology program tools and resources support the diverse developmental, cultural, social, and linguistic needs of students, teachers, and their communities.
• Facilitates the use of accepted learning taxonomies, effective instructional design, principles, and appropriate assessment methods.
• Enables and enhances instruction across the curriculum to promote engagement, creativity, critical thinking, problem-solving and student-owned exploration of information and ideas.
• Demonstrates best practices in the integration of information and technology skills and resources in all areas of the curriculum while modeling and supporting engagement through inquiry-based learning.
• Facilitates the design and delivery of data-informed differentiated instruction guided by universal design principles and pedagogical strategies promoting the mastery of 21st century tools and content.
• Uses data from multiple sources, including student, teacher, school, district, and local community, to make decisions that improve the effectiveness of the instructional technology program while supporting achievement.
• Actively explore and integrate emerging technologies, resources, information formats, and innovative practices to support student achievement
• Participates in ongoing professional development related to job responsibilities and maintaining expertise in the field.
• Focuses on supporting teaching and learning, not on supporting IT or technical issues.
• Performs related duties as assigned.

EDUCATION AND EXPERIENCE REQUIREMENTS:
• Minimum: NC Teacher Licensure
• Required: 18079 Special Endorsement in Computer Education
• Minimum: Two - three years classroom experience or educational experiences related to technology use in the classroom
• Strong history of innovative teaching practices and building student aspirations

CERTIFICATION AND LICENSURE REQUIREMENTS:
• 18079 Special Endorsement in Computer Education, NC Teacher Licensure

SPECIAL KNOWLEDGE REQUIREMENTS:
• Strong understanding of adult learning andragogy and pedagogy and their relation to technology integration.
• Extensive knowledge and skills to work with students and teachers on computer use.
• In-depth understanding of the competencies outlined in the ISTE NETS standards for students, teachers, administrators.
• Knowledge of district organization, operations, policies and objectives
• Knowledge of the delivery of training including use of technology and best practices related to the development and delivery of training.
• Knowledge of public speaking techniques.

CLASSROOM TEACHER

General Statement of Duties
This employee is responsible for organizing and implementing an instructional program for students in the regular classroom setting and meeting the duties of teaching as outlined in laws and policies.

Illustrative Examples of Work
Duties of this position include but are not limited to:

1. Planning
a. Designing the academic (basic) education program so that it is consistent with the total educational philosophy of the district.
b. Continuing professional growth through educational meetings, visiting related facilities, reading professional literature, and exchanging ideas among the district staff.
c. Working in coordination with other basic education teachers and other departments in planning and developing the basic program.

2. Programming:
a. Preparing educational plans for each group of students based on individually assessed needs in accordance with the district's philosophy, goals and objectives.
b. Using appropriate assessment instruments pertinent to instructional areas to assess student progress.
c. Preparing lesson plans for each group or class assigned.
d. Developing and maintaining a classroom environment conducive to effective learning.
e. Providing varied instructional techniques and media through individual and/or group sessions designed to meet the educational, social and emotional needs of the students.
f. Taking all necessary and reasonable precautions to protect students, materials, equipment and facilities.
g. Participating in the in-school staffing and screening processes as appropriate.
h. Assisting in upholding and enforcing school rules, administrative regulations, and School Board Policies.
i. Assisting in the selection of books, equipment and other instructional
materials.
j. Providing for his/her own professional growth through an ongoing program of reading, workshops, seminars, conferences and/or advanced course work at institutions of higher learning.

3. Monitoring and Reporting:
a. Ensuring that each student in the program has necessary evaluation records in his/her permanent folder.
b. Evaluating student progress on a regular basis and providing feedback to students and parents.
c. Supplying progress reports to school personnel and to parents of students as necessary and requested.
d. Completing appropriate reports for local, state, federal and educational agencies.
e. Referring those students who require further evaluation or follow-up services to the appropriate school personnel or community agencies.
f. Attending and participating in faculty meeting or other meetings as required.
g. Other responsibilities as directed by his/her immediate supervisor.

Pay Grade - Teacher Pay Schedule
Bachelor's degree from an Accredited University and must hold or be able to qualify for a valid North Carolina Teaching License in the subject area.
