The Collaborative for Educational Services (CES) is seeking a qualified Literacy Specialist to work with at-risk youth placed in residential facilities run by the Department of Youth Services (DYS) in the Northeast Region of Massachusetts for the 2022-2023 school year. We are looking for a passionate and collaborative teacher who is committed to working with youth in small classroom settings. We value professionalism, positive youth development, and culturally responsive teaching. Candidates should possess a Bachelor's degree. Massachusetts teaching license in Reading or English at the secondary level (8-12) preferred. ESL classroom experience and license strongly desired. Travel within Massachusetts required, as needed. Successful candidates may be eligible for the teacher loan forgiveness program for up to $17,500. Teachers in DYS schools are part of the Massachusetts Teachers' Retirement System.

This is You:
  • You hold a Bachelor's Degree from accredited College or University
  • Massachusetts teacher licensure in Reading (all levels), or English Language Arts (8-12), or ESL (5-12)
  • Experience and/or training in research based reading/literacy programs
  • A minimum of 3 - 5 years of demonstrated successful teaching
  • Successful experience in consultation and training of teachers highly desirable

Highlights of What You Will Do:
  • Support the DYS reading initiatives and work to strengthen and expand the reading programs through curriculum development and professional development
  • Provide targeted in-person reading intervention supports for students with identified need
  • Collaborate with site team in scheduling, integration of curriculum, and program procedures
  • Provide direct support to teachers addressing appropriate reading accommodations and
    modifications
  • Remain current and communicate the latest writings and research on literacy instruction and the adolescent learner to teachers and administrators
  • Create a classroom environment that is supportive and conducive to learning
