Intermediate District 287 is a west metro district for learners with unique needs. As an intermediate district, we provide specialized services, primarily setting IV special education, to students from 11 member districts in the west metro.
The Director of Communications & Public Relations is accountable for supporting the superintendent, executive directors, and the District as a whole in all internal and external communications and public relations initiatives that serve to support the superintendent's intent and the district's strategic plan.

The Director of Communications & Public Relations is accountable for supporting the superintendent, executive directors, and the District as a whole in all internal and external communications and public relations initiatives that serve to support the superintendent's intent and the district's strategic plan.
What You'll Do:
- Provide leadership in developing, managing, and executing an effective public relations and communication plan for the district
- Coordinate the handling of all inquiries received from external sources, including media, community, and inquiries received from other schools and organizations
- Collaborate with the superintendent and other school leaders to develop strong messages to present at the state capital during the legislative sessions, for the purpose of communicating the District's interest and intent
- Oversee the production of materials that create a consistent message and image for print and electronic distribution
- Oversees employee recognition programs and ensure that they are organized and promoted in a way that is equitable for all participants and award recipients
- Salary range: $122,858 - $156,350
- Paid Leave:
- 160 hours vacation leave accrued per year
- 96 hours of sick leave accrued per year
- 24 hours of personal leave per year

- Bachelor's degree in Business, Public Relations, Marketing, Communications, Journalism, or a closely related field, required
- Five (5) years of professional level experience in public relations and/or marketing, to include experience in planning and implementing communication methods, approaches, and plans
- Seven (7) years of high-level strategic experience in communications or public relations, to include experience in designing and implementing communication methods, approaches, and plans
- Preferred: Experience working for a public entity, especially a school district
- Interested in candidates who are: diverse, bilingual, or have experience working with diverse populations.
