Manager, Mathematics Teaching and Learning Solutions

Position summary

The Teaching and Learning Math Manager will work across the Content Solutions and other functional teams to support a variety of services delivered by NWEA. They will use their strong understanding of math research to lead the development of non-product, non-PL RFP responses for math opportunities and external consulting solutions to ensure potential and existing partners receive viable, innovative pathways to connecting assessment, teaching, and/or learning to improve student outcomes. They will create tools and resources that represent NWEA's math stances and promote best practices in the field while moving forward with NWEA's AOP initiatives. They will provide SME-related support for advising on the usage of NWEA products assessment data in relation to teaching and learning, helping clarify appropriate and consistent messaging, and offering suggestions for making our products stronger. They will support innovation by proposing designs for new products and/or services and offering suggestions for improvements to existing products, and they will serve as a leader in cross-functional teams as NWEA expands into the teaching and learning space and adjusts communications connecting assessment data to teaching and learning.

This role will require ongoing work to stay informed of current research to increase the knowledge of Content Solutions staff via Staff Professional Learning and other avenues for learning.

Responsibilities
  • Lead RFP responses for non-PL/non-product opportunities, developing proposed solutions, organizing and managing response teams in conjunction with other functional units, and drafting text as needed.
  • Remain up to date on research relevant to the teaching and learning of literacy to be equipped to lead research efforts on areas of focus for NWEA's math vision and AOP efforts.
  • Provide critical leadership on developing solutions in support of the creation of tools and resources that advance the NWEA math stances and drive the field toward improving student outcomes in the multiple domains of math.
  • Lead efforts for connecting data from NWEA products to teaching and learning, ensuring data is used appropriately and as one point within a comprehensive assessment system, working closely with Program Management, Marketing and Communication, Partner Accounts, and Professional Learning to have consistent and clear messaging.
  • Support efforts in finding a replacement to the Learning Continuum and refining existing processes (e.g., text complexity determination) to ensure that the replacement represents best practices in assessment as it connects to teaching and learning.
  • Support the development of solutions for external consulting opportunities, vetting proposed solutions and then fleshing out details as needed to form a full solution, providing active consulting as needed.
  • Propose innovative assessment designs and products for new product consideration, as well as advise on viable improvements to existing products.
  • Represent the team as an advocate in cross-functional meetings while providing leadership and guidance to help socialize the math stances as well as improve overall understanding of how the stances manifest in assessment, teaching, and learning.
  • Provide domain-specific SME support for other function teams as requested (e.g., Partner Account presentations, PL and SPL reviews)
  • Perform other duties as assigned to ensure the success of the team and the entire organization

Education and experience
  • Ed. D or equivalent training with a focus on math content teaching, learning, and/or assessment, with a strong understanding of pedagogy (e.g., curriculum and instruction, math, educational psychology, cognitive sciences) required
  • Minimum of ten years' experience in assessment, teaching, and/or learning
  • Experience responding to RFPs
  • Deep understanding of current research related to math teaching and learning best practices
  • Solid knowledge and experience working with curriculum materials and standards
  • Minimum of two years' experience training or managing a content team preferred
  • Experience presenting at regional and national conferences
