KEY RESPONSIBILITIES

New Teacher Induction Coaching & Lead Mentor Role:
  • Coach, mentor, observe, and support a caseload of 12-16 teachers across 4 sites to complete teacher induction requirements to Clear their credential and improve their teaching practice and/or to engage in an intensive coaching cycle with support.
    • Coaching may be across subject areas and grade levels based on student need but for the 22-23SY will be mainly clustered with Single Subject STEM and ELA teachers.
    • Responsible for fulfilling all reporting requirements for documentation of coaching and support for teachers to complete induction portfolio requirements and successfully complete Year 1, Year 2, and Early Completion Option requirements.
  • Serve as the lead mentor and coach across all LCPS sites to ensure all new teachers and mentors are on track to complete induction and mentoring requirements and serve as a liaison between LCPS and the university partner.
  • Attend all meetings with university partner and relay information as needed to other mentors and mentees as well as to CAO and Senior Director of People & Operations to ensure support and compliance with teacher induction program requirements and individual teacher needs.
  • Align coaching and professional development to school-wide goals and strategic plan and LCPS' curriculum, instruction, and assessment model and LCPS' Teacher Development & Evaluation Framework.
  • Supports teachers' achievement of goals through a variety of coaching strategies (e.g., co-planning, modeling, co-teaching, student work analysis, and observation).
  • Serve as an alternate observer as needed in the evaluation cycles of new to LCPS teachers.

New Teacher Development Systems Management:
  • Collaboratively refine and implement a clear and consistent K-12 New Teacher Development Program grounded in the LCPS Instructional Stances and EL best practices with a scope and sequence for teachers new to Lighthouse, differentiating learning and onboarding experiences for different new teacher populations (Year 1 new to Lighthouse and Years 1-3 new to teaching).
  • Clearly articulate and monitor desired outcomes and goals in collaboration with Chief Academic Officer.
  • Collaborate with Principals and APs to ensure that New Teacher Development is at the core of these teachers' development, and one-on-one coaching and other PD opportunities are aligned to maximize each teacher's growth.
  • Conduct regular walkthroughs and observations of all new teachers in collaboration with the site instructional teams and the Academic Anchor Team in service of a shared knowledge of current teacher practice.
  • Facilitate consistent structures to support and accelerate the learning curve of new Lighthouse educators (may include trainings, cohort meetings, mentoring, lunch and learns, happy hours, etc.).
  • Mentor, on-board, and train new to Lighthouse teachers grades K-12 in core Lighthouse practices, especially as needed if mid-year hires come onboard.
  • May lead one or more PLCs or other PD related to learning needs of new hires.

Collaboration & Professional Learning
  • Collaborate closely with the Academic Anchors Team to ensure induction coaching and other new teacher supports and PD are aligned to overall LCPS instructional model and priorities.
  • Coordinate coaching cycles, support priorities, PD arc of New Teacher development and PD arc of New to Lighthouse Cohort with Principals.
  • Engage in training, calibration, and norming for observers/evaluators in LCPS' evaluation and development framework.

Additional Duties, as assigned by Supervisor

Time Commitment

This position is 1.0 FTE (full-time exempt) and follows a 12-month (233 day) work year with significant student-free days for professional learning and collaboration with colleagues and interaction with families. Includes approximately 5 weeks of paid holidays/breaks during the school year in addition to accruing 10 days of PTO during the year for use during the summer.

Common Building Hours: All leadership staff are expected to maintain hours of 8:00 - 5:00 pm M-F with some flexibility to establish exact working hours based on full administrative team schedule.

Supervision

This position reports to the Chief Academic Officer.

Compensation/Benefits

Commensurate with experience. Lighthouse offers a comprehensive benefits package that includes an outstanding 100% employer covered medical, dental and vision benefits plan, an employer-contributed retirement plan, and professional development opportunities. The salary range for this position is $70-90K depending on experience.

*Please note this is a one-year-funded full-time position based on need and will be reassessed annually for renewal of funding and need for the role."

MINIMUM QUALIFICATIONS:
  • B.A. or B.S., required; Master's Degree, preferred
  • Appropriate California Clear Teaching Credential, required
  • 3-5+ years teaching experience in an urban education setting serving low-income students of color, required
  • 2+ years of instructional coaching or mentoring and/or school leadership experience preferred
  • Experience with Google apps
  • Bilingual in Spanish a plus
