Position Summary

Gov. Kate Brown has directed that Oregon will implement a legal requirement that all public and private school teachers, staff and volunteers must be fully vaccinated against COVID-19. "Fully vaccinated" is defined as 14 days after receiving all required doses of an approved COVID-19 vaccine (currently two shots of Pfizer or Moderna vaccine, or one shot of Johnson & Johnson vaccine). All staff members will need to provide proof of COVID-19 vaccination. Exemptions may be made only for eligible medical or religious reasons. There will not be an option to opt out for other reasons or choose testing in lieu of vaccination, under the state mandate.

Provides physical and behavioral care of special education students during transport to and from school. This individual attention is precipitated by specific needs that cannot be managed from the driver's seat. Performs activities involved in the safe boarding, riding and exiting of passengers.

Essential Functions:
  1. Observe and record behavioral management data as required.
  2. Control aggressive student activity and encourage calm and orderly conduct.
  3. Assist in implementing behavior management programs and following specific instructions of classroom teacher and/or other Special Education staff.
  4. Assure that infants are secured into car seats during transportation and that they and their belongings are delivered safely to their parents.
  5. Assist wheelchair passengers to board, ride and exit the bus.


Required Knowledge, Skills and Abilities

  1. Ability to learn and follow behavior management techniques.
  2. Ability to handle physical care need and mobility requirements of assigned student.
  3. Ability to communicate effectively with students.
  4. Good observation and surveillance skills; ability to recognize potential problems and to take appropriate action.
  5. Ability to remain calm in emergency situations.
  6. Experience differentiating practices for diverse populations.
  7. Ability to work effectively and collaboratively with diverse students, staff, and community populations.

Minimum Qualifications

Previous training, education or experience in safety standards and behavioral management techniques.

Bilingual proficiency and/or multicultural experience strongly preferred.
