Administrator, Grow Your Own - High School & Pre-BA Teacher Pathway

SUMMARY

Under general supervision, develops, implements, and coordinates a teacher preparation and licensure program in partnership with MFT and institution of higher education to build a pipeline of student teacher candidates.

ESSENTIAL RESPONSIBILITIES:

  • Collaborates on the design, development, and implementation of grow your own (GYO) teacher pathway program(s)

    • Approx. 80%: oversee the development and launch of the MPS BA + Licensure pathway for current MSP ESPs to earn their initial teaching credential with an institution(s) of higher education (IHE)
    • Approx. 20%: oversee district-level support for the Future Educator High School Teacher Pathway program based at MPS high schools
  • Coordinate and convene partners to lead a request for proposals (RFP) process and program design
  • Oversees recruitment, selection, position change, and matching of all program participants, cluster sites, cooperating teachers, and summer session placements for the teacher pathway program in collaboration with IHE(s).
  • Manages the partnership between MPS, IHE(s), and the MFT Union; collaborates with partner leaders.
  • Maintains program participant database on progress from inquiry through completion.
  • Works closely with the coordinator(s) at the IHE(s) on program implementation.
  • Oversees data collection from program participants and stakeholders for ongoing program improvement and accountability.
  • Develops and implements MPS budget for the teacher pathway program in collaboration with supervisor; meets with senior leadership and general counsel to ensure compliance with state law.
  • Develops a sustainability plan for the program and applies for grant funding in collaboration with the supervisor and IHE(s) when applicable.
  • Represents the program at local, regional, state and national venues, including conference presentations, legislative meetings, philanthropic events, national conferences, etc.
  • Provides information for all stakeholders as it relates to recruitment, curriculum, communications, evaluation, financing, and partnership of program.
  • In collaboration with IHE partner(s), co-leads the program design team and steering committee.
  • Maintains relationships with national and state elected officials and potential funders; devises business plans to use with potential funders and stakeholders; works with MPS lobbyist; maintains partnership with IHE(s) on related activities.
  • Manages the partnership with external consultants and partnering organizations (such as the National Center for Teacher Residencies (NCTR) network.)
  • Facilitates program participant employment; works with administrators, talent acquisition, and employee relations to place program participants.
  • Works independently, and makes appropriate decisions based on work experience.
  • Demonstrates courteous and cooperative behavior when interacting with students, clients, visitors, and MPS staff; acts in a manner that promotes a harmonious and effective workplace environment.
  • Enthusiastically promotes the Superintendent's goals and priorities in compliance with all policies and procedures.
  • Maintains absolute confidentiality of work-related issues, records and MPS information.

MINIMUM QUALIFICATIONS

Bachelor's Degree in Education or related field

AND

3 years of project coordination experience in an education setting or an equivalent combination of education, training and experience as determined by Human Resources.

Knowledge of:

  • Minneapolis Public Schools policies and regulations.
  • State and Federal laws, statues, rules, codes and regulations governing activities.
  • Principles and practices of constructing and implementing complex systems and processes.
  • Principles and techniques for project management.
  • Techniques and practices for efficient and cost effective management of resources.
  • Principles of confidential record keeping and records management.
  • Computer software applications related to duties.

Skill in:

  • Leading and coordinating pre-teacher experience programs.
  • Using initiative and independent judgment within established procedural guidelines.
  • Researching, collecting, analyzing, and preparing data and generating reports.
  • Analyzing data and recommending effective solutions.
  • Developing and coordinating program plans, policies, and procedures.
  • Assessing and prioritizing multiple tasks, projects and demands.
  • Establishing and maintaining effective working relationships with co-workers, leadership and stakeholders.
  • Operating a personal computer utilizing a wide variety of specialized software.
  • Communicating effectively verbally and in writing.

LICENSE AND CERTIFICATION REQUIREMENTS -A valid Minnesota State Driver's License may be required.

PHYSICAL DEMANDS AND WORKING ENVIRONMENT -Work is performed in a standard office environment which requires occasionally lifting such articles as file boxes or heavier materials with help from others and/or lifting and carrying light objects frequently. A job in this category may require walking or standing to a significant degree or may involve sitting most of the time with long periods of computer work, heavy phone usage, and ability to lift and move items weighing up to 50 pounds.
