Job Summary:
Responsible for all maintenance and repair of the buildings and grounds at St. Joseph's Collegiate Institute, leadership of the maintenance team, and coordination of the Supplementary work program
Essential Responsibilities:
  • Leadership: Lead and assist maintenance staff in performing tasks. Communicate regularly with President on matters of importance.
  • Work Program: Management of all aspects of Supplementary Work Program. This includes work schedules, parent communication, and job assignments. Also coordination with business office providing tuition credit updates.
  • Facilities Committee: Serves on the Board Facilities Committee and attends committee meetings.
  • Budget: Works with Vice President of Finance to prepare annual budget and adheres to this budget throughout the year. Purchases all maintenance and cleaning supplies and parts. Performs regular review of the building needs and pricing of supplies.
  • Equipment: Works to maintain maintenance and cleaning equipment such as mowers, tractors, gators, auto scrubber, manlift, etc. Evaluates and purchases equipment when needed.
  • School Infrastructure: Responsible for the maintenance and repair of all the school's infrastructure, including HVAC (Johnson Controls building management system), plumbing, electrical, kitchen equipment, athletic facilities and equipment, theater sound and lighting, and classroom/lab furnishings. Coordinates with outside contractors when necessary. Responsible for service contracts for elevator and trash disposal.
  • Safety and Security: Ensures the maintenance and security of doors, windows, and locks. Controls building access and the security alarm systems. Responds to alarms 24/7. Serves as a member of the Crisis Response Team and assists with evacuation and lockdown drills.
  • Computer Skills: Proficient in basic computer skills - email, excel, word, as well as GE security system, camera system and Johnson Building Management system.
  • Transportation: Oversees bus maintenance and repairs. Assures all maintenance procedures and records comply with NYS DOT and that buses pass biannual inspections.
  • Facilities for Special Events: Works closely with department leaders for set up of facilities for liturgies, events, meetings, etc.
  • Technology: Assists technology department with data and phone wiring installation and maintenance.
  • Custodial and Property: Takes part as a maintenance team member in routine custodial chores, property maintenance, snow removal, landscaping, etc.
  • Inspection: Inspect building and grounds regularly and prioritize repairs. Responsible for coordination with Fire Inspector for NYS annual report and Boiler inspections with Hartford Steam Boiler as well as NYS Department of Labor
Skills, Ability & Knowledge Required
  • High School Diploma with experience with working in a maintenance department and supervision skills.
  • Experience with budget development and fiscal management.
  • Ability to follow oral and written directions.
  • Willingness to lead, take charge, and offer opinions and direction.
  • Attention to detail, thoroughness to complete tasks.
