QUALIFICATIONS:

  1. Illinois Professional Educator License (PEL) with General Administrative required.  Director of Special Education and LSB1 endorsements preferred. Minimum of two (2) years successful teacher leader or administrative experience required.

JOB DESCRIPTION / RESPONSIBILITIES:

  1. Supervise and evaluate related service staff in the district:  School Psychologists, Social Workers, Nurses, Health Assistants, Speech/Language Pathologists, Guidance Counselors, and Interpreters. Work collaboratively with building and central office administration and special education staff toward district improvement initiatives. Plan and provide professional development opportunities for related service staff. Participate in monthly related service department meetings. Supervise and promote department growth with clinical leaders for related services. Coordinate the provision of Section 504 ADA plans. Work collaboratively with the Director of Student Services and the Assistant Director of Special Education to promote growth and positive change for the Special Education department. Manage the provision of home/hospital tutoring services. Develop and maintain the district crisis response team procedures and protocol. Collaborate with all outside agencies that may provide the district with staff either via contractual services or through a special education cooperative agreement. Coordinate vision and hearing screenings, immunization clinics and district health notices. Collaborate with state, county, and local agencies in the provision of health and counseling services for district students. Share responsibilities with the Assistant Director of Special Education regarding the oversight and attendance at IEP meetings as needed, support special education legal mandates, and assist staff in writing legally sound IEP paperwork. Serve as LEA representative in difficult IEP meetings. Work with building administration to assist with summative staff evaluations and the development of remediation plans. Oversee the IL-AWARE Grant. Assist with state and federal compliance including indicators/probes/audits.
