Job Requirements:
- Licensed or eligible for Vermont Educators License.
- Endorsement in special education or eligible for Vermont Provisional License.
- Documented or eligible for NCLB Highly Qualified Teacher status as applicable
- Eligible to work in the United States without sponsorship.
Job Functions:
- Providing in-class accommodations and modifications to the curriculum (and when needed, insular classes taught within the Bridge space)
- Providing specialized instruction in content areas related to IEP (Learning Labs)
- Developing and implementing behavior plans, including positive behavior modification, and processing behavioral incidents with students
- Providing social-emotional and executive functioning support and interventions
- Training and supervising paraeducators providing support services to students on IEPs
- Communicating and maintaining positive relationships with parents and guardians of students with complex needs
- Case management (writing individualized education plans, communications with families, collaboration with related service providers, etc.) of a limited number of students;
- Teaching in small group instructional settings
- Developing IEP goals and progress reports that are reflective of a student's needs;
- Planning, leading, and managing large and potentially complex IEP meetings with students, parents, teachers, and other support people
- Connecting with outside agencies to support students (clinicians, therapists, physicians)
- Demonstrated skills in effective consultation with teacher colleagues and other school and community agencies to support student success in the general education classroom
- Demonstrated ability to complete required IEP and other required documents in a timely and efficient way
- Understanding of Cultural Competency (as explained through Essay 1 on SchoolSpring).
- Knowledge of best practices in engaging and motivating students and managing student behaviors.
Preferred Attributes :
- Experience working with and/or teaching individuals with special needs
- Participation in professional learning community groups, including working collaboratively with colleagues to plan units of study, review student data and progress, and adjust instruction.
- A commitment to student-centered learning approaches including personalizing instruction, universal design for learning, and supporting students meeting core proficiencies
- Training and experience with English Language Learners and students with disabilities.
SALARY: As per the Master Agreement between the Burlington Board of School Commissioners and the Burlington Education Association.
