Salary: Fulltime 205-day contract; Pay Range H

SUMMARY : The Principal works alongside teachers, staff, families, and students to continue the success of the Juneau Community Charter School (JCCS). JCCS is governed by a family-elected Academic Policy Committee (APC) which includes parents, teachers and the principal. Our public K-8 charter school in Juneau, Alaska fosters a playful, creative, constructivist, project-based learning environment. The Principal serves as the chief point of contact for the school, facilitating collaboration and providing leadership, guidance, delegation, and support. The Principal ensures the continual development and implementation of our educational model, guiding principles, and strategic plan.

QUALIFICATIONS :

The requirements listed below are representative of the knowledge, skills and abilities required to satisfactorily perform the essential duties and responsibilities of the position.

Minimum Requirements:
  • Bachelor's or Master's degree in education
  • Hold a valid Alaska Administrator's Certificate (Type B) at the time the Administrator's duties under the contract commence and maintain that certificate while employed pursuant to the contract.
  • Minimum three years of successful teaching experience
  • Collaborative leadership style
  • Efficient and professional writing, communication, and organizational skills
  • Alignment with JCCS core vision and guiding principles

Preferred Qualifications :
  • Experience in instructional leadership in a constructivist, project-based setting
  • Ability to work productively with diverse populations across all grade levels
  • Ability to facilitate collaboration amongst all staff members
  • Committed to a community-school concept of family involvement with school/community partnerships
  • Knowledge of developmental stages of literacy and math from early childhood through middle school
  • Demonstrated skills in restorative practices and social-emotional learning (SEL)
  • Proven effective interpersonal and communication skills with students, staff, families, district, and community
  • Knowledge of special education programs and requirements

  • Oversee, coordinate, and execute day-to-day and after-school operations and activities
  • Exert leadership ensuring the effective implementation of the instructional program outlined in the school's charter and strategic plan
  • Work with teachers and staff to contribute to and oversee the continued development of an integrated K-8 curriculum that aligns with the JCCS strategic plan and, where applicable, JSD goals
  • Provide instructional leadership in staff development and evaluation
  • Supervise yearly classroom and schoolwide calendar of activities
  • Oversee and maintain confidential student and school records
  • Manage school budget
  • Assist staff and families in facilitation of services for students with special needs
  • Support the family volunteer and outreach program
  • Serve as a liaison to and voting member of the APC
  • Serve as district liaison, chief point of contact, and advocate for the school
  • Direct the schedules and activities of school support staff including supervision, training, and evaluation
  • Collaboratively develop and revise appropriate procedures for the discipline, attendance, health, and safety of JCCS students and staff
  • Assume responsibility for the implementation and observance of all JSD Board and APC policies and regulations by the school's staff, students, and families
  • Evaluates and counsels all staff members to support their individual performances and provides for the effective recorded evaluation process for certified and classified staff according to district adopted procedures
  • Carry out supervisory responsibilities in accordance with the organization's policies and applicable laws. Responsibilities include: personnel, planning, assigning, and directing work addressing complaints, and resolving problems.

    Compensation : Annual salary range JSAA Range H starts at $94,947 (placement is dependent upon experience), for a 205-day contract. We offer an excellent benefit package including an employer-sponsored health plan (medical, dental and vision), employer-paid life insurance up to 2.5 times the administrator's salary as well as membership in the Teachers Retirement System (TRS) plan, auto allowance and cell phone allowance. Optional additional benefits are available including: Section 125 Plan and voluntary deferred compensation plan.
