Job Description
The Anchor Paraeducator performs a variety of instructional and/or support duties to assist the school and teachers in instruction, supervision, and education of students in one on one and small group instructional support. The job of the Anchor Paraeducator is to assist in the implementation of services to students with significant behavioral, social and possible academic needs. The Anchor Paraeducator will work to support school teams in implementation of teaching plans for individual students identified by school teams.
Paraeducators work under the day-to-day direction of the staff member(s) supported, and under the direct supervision of the Principal. Teachers and/or educational staff associates will provide specific directions and oversight for supervision and/or instructional support.

Essential Duties and Responsibilities:

Works collaboratively by assisting teachers in assessment, curriculum implementation, student interactions, enforcing safe behaviors, and enhancing social growth of students.

Assist staff in implementation of plans related to behavior, social emotional learning and trauma informed practices to include but not limited to behavior support plans and social skill plans.

Assists other personnel for the purpose of increasing staff capacity to implement student programs, including instructional and behavioral plans.

Participates in team meetings for the purpose of collaborating and sharing information.

Provides support for behaviorally challenging students in a variety of settings.

Participates in ongoing training around behavioral strategies, social skills, trauma informed practices and specific behavioral interventions as needed.
Takes action, or assists in taking action, to restrain students who are at risk of harming themselves or others by following school/district approved restraint procedures.

Communicates with students, parents, and community members with respect and confidentiality.

Flexibility in providing instructional support and tutoring to students in one-on-one situations.

Documents behavior of students to assist teachers in assessing progress with education plans.

Performs Other Duties as Assigned.

Job Requirements
Minimum Qualifications: High School Diploma or Recognized Equivalent Highly Qualified Paraprofessional (HQP) through one of the following: -Associate's Degree -Successful completion (b-minus or better) -At least 48 credit hours from an accredited institution of higher learning -Successful completion of an approved paraprofessional assessment test required Preferences: Experience in working with students with Disabilities is preferred.

  • High School/Trade School degree preferred
  • Citizenship, residency or work VISA in United States required

    The Bennington-Rutland Supervisory Union (BRSU) is a public school system located in southwestern Vermont. The BRSU includes school districts in four Vermont counties and three Vermont technical center regions. The BRSU is the second largest Vermont supervisory union with a total area of approximately 460 square miles. In 2018, BRSU districts have a total combined enrollment of 2,200 students.

    A unique feature of the BRSU is that none of its districts operates a high school. All BRSU districts have high school choice. BRSU districts send students to over 30 public and independent high schools with a large number of BRSU students choosing to attend Burr and Burton Academy in Manchester, VT.
