Job Description
The Personalized Learning Coordinator will assist in the realization of the BRSU Teachers as Designers model including supporting the Director of Teaching and Learning to implement curriculum and develop professional development to bring curricular and pedagogical ideals to fruition. This may include supporting building principals to teach, supervise, and evaluate elements of the BRSU's Teachers as Designers model. The Coordinator will also support the instructional coaching team to work with teachers in all aspects of TaD including the development of Personalized Learning Plans (PLPs), passion project, and capstone programs. This position will also contribute to the continued development of the Mobile Innovation Learning Kit (MILK) crate system including full off-the-shelf units aligned to district proficiencies. This may consist of establishing and promoting the use of maker spaces, writing grants, acquisition of needed tools/materials, and developing systems for training and managing teacher and student use.

Minimum Qualifications:
1. Vermont Educator's License (will consider a previously licensed educator with appropriate experience)
2. Thorough understanding of all elements of BRSU's Teachers as Designers Model
3. Knowledge of and experience with PLP, project-based learning, technology innovation, and the use and maintenance of makerspaces
4. Experience working with teachers on accomplishing professional goals
5. Current knowledge of research-based strategies and interventions

Essential Duties and Responsibilities:
Identifying school teaching and learning needs, barriers, and weaknesses by analyzing student data, and organizing and implementing problem-solving actions with teachers; Supporting the development of all teachers in understanding the curriculum and varied assessments, Teachers as Designers Model, and data analysis; Assisting teachers with resources, materials, tools, information, etc. to support classroom instruction and planning, including new resources and methods such as Universal Design for Learning & Proficiency-Based Learning; Facilitating school-based and system-level high-quality professional development, working with teachers (in teams or individually) to refine their knowledge and skills. Professional development could include, but not be limited to, in-class coaching, observing, modeling of instructional strategies, guiding teachers in looking at student work, developing lesson plans with teachers based on student needs, supporting data analysis, supporting the integration of technology, co-planning with teachers, etc.; Monitoring instructional effectiveness and student progress using tools and strategies gained through professional development; Encouraging and modeling skillful use of data to inform decision-making; Performing other duties as may be assigned by the supervisor.

    The Bennington-Rutland Supervisory Union (BRSU) is a public school system located in southwestern Vermont. The BRSU includes school districts in four Vermont counties and three Vermont technical center regions. The BRSU is the second largest Vermont supervisory union with a total area of approximately 460 square miles. In 2018, BRSU districts have a total combined enrollment of 2,200 students.

    A unique feature of the BRSU is that none of its districts operates a high school. All BRSU districts have high school choice. BRSU districts send students to over 30 public and independent high schools with a large number of BRSU students choosing to attend Burr and Burton Academy in Manchester, VT.
