Job Description
The Lawrence School for Young Children has been serving children for decades and is now hiring a pre-kindergarten paraeducator. This individual will perform a variety of instructional and/or support duties to assist teachers in supervision, social development, and education of students. The primary role of the paraeducator is to assist in the implementation of services to student(s) with behavioral, social, communication, and learning needs. The paraeducator works to support the school team in implementation of individualized plans for student(s) that have been assigned to them. They will work in groups and one-on-one to support the student(s). The paraeducator's work is supervised by The Lawrence School's Director and supported by the BRSU service providers. Teachers and/or service providers will provide resources and directions based on the individualized needs of the student(s). This is an exceptional and rare opportunity to join an outstanding educational team. This is an anticipated school year and summer full time position.

Essential Duties and Responsibilities:
~Work collaboratively with other professionals in the areas of assessment, curriculum implementation, student interactions, enforcing safe behaviors, and enhancing social growth of students.
~Assist in implementation of individualized plans related to behavior, social emotional learning, communication and cognitive development.
~Assist in implementing student programs, including instructional and behavioral plans.
~Participate in team meetings and provide insight into student needs.
~Provide support for behaviorally challenging students in a variety of settings.
~Participates in ongoing training around behavioral strategies, social skills, trauma informed practices and specific behavioral interventions as needed.
~Communicates with students, parents, and community members with respect and confidentiality.
~Provide support to students in large groups, small groups, and one-on-one situations.
~Documents behavior of students to assist in progress monitoring for education plans.
~Other duties as assigned .

Job Requirements
Minimum Qualifications: High School Diploma or Recognized Equivalent Highly Qualified Paraprofessional (HQP) through one of the following: -Associate's Degree -Successful completion (b-minus or better) -At least 48 credit hours from an accredited institution of higher learning -Successful completion of an approved paraprofessional assessment test required Preferences: Experience in working with students with Disabilities is preferred.

  • High School/Trade School degree preferred
  • Citizenship, residency or work VISA in United States required

The BRSU includes school districts in four Vermont counties and three Vermont technical center regions. The BRSU is the second largest Vermont supervisory union with a total area of approximately 460 square miles. In 2018, BRSU districts have a total combined enrollment of 2,200 students.

    A unique feature of the BRSU is that none of its districts operates a high school. All BRSU districts have high school choice.
