SUMMARY

Under general supervision, plans and executes Special Education system projects as needed. Creates project and communication plans, assembles and oversees project teams, develops and provides training and user help guides, and coordinates change management.

Essential duties and responsibilities may include, but are not limited to, the following:

  • Develops and provides training for staff on Special Education systems; develops user guides, training videos, and other materials as needed.
  • Collaborates with vendors on implementing changes and upgrades.
  • Processes system help requests; problem solves software and system issues with staff.
  • Coordinates planning and implementation of system projects including scope, goals and deliverables in collaboration with stakeholders.
  • Tests new modules and system developments; identifies issues and creates solutions.
  • Creates and implements communication plans for projects to keep all stakeholders up-to-date on progress.
  • Creates follow up plans for evaluation of implemented projects.
  • Maintains all aspects of security and confidentiality of records and information.
  • Provides administrative and technical support; answers user questions on access, security, and processes.
  • Continually manages project expectations with team members and other stakeholders; identifies and resolves issues and conflicts within the project team.
  • Demonstrates courteous and cooperative behavior when interacting with students, clients, visitors, and MPS staff; acts in a manner that promotes a harmonious and effective workplace environment.
  • Enthusiastically promotes the Superintendent's goals and priorities in compliance with all policies and procedures.
  • Maintains absolute confidentiality of work-related issues, records and MPS information.
  • Assists maintaining special education student data in MPS student information systems.
  • Other duties or tasks may be assigned on an as-needed basis.

MINIMUM QUALIFICATIONS

Education, Training and Experience Guidelines

Bachelor's Degree in Technology, Education, or a related field; AND two (2) years of professional experience coordinating projects for Special Education; OR an equivalent combination of education, training and experience as determined by Human Resources.

Knowledge of:

  • Minneapolis Public Schools policies and regulations.
  • Rules and regulations for Special Education Due Process.
  • Principles and practices for project management and organizational development.
  • Principles and techniques for project management and organizational development.
  • Techniques and practices for efficient and cost effective management of resources.
  • Principles of record keeping and records management.
  • Computer software applications related to duties.

Skill in:

  • Using initiative and independent judgment within established procedural guidelines.
  • Analyzing data and recommending effective solutions.
  • Problem solving software program issues.
  • Assessing and prioritizing multiple tasks, projects and demands.
  • Establishing and maintaining effective working relationships with co-workers, leadership and stakeholders.
  • Operating a personal computer utilizing a wide variety of specialized software.
  • Communicating effectively verbally and in writing.

LICENSE AND CERTIFICATION REQUIREMENTS

A valid Minnesota Driver's License may be required.

PHYSICAL DEMANDS AND WORKING ENVIRONMENT

Work is performed in a standard office environment which requires occasionally lifting such articles as file boxes or heavier materials with help from others and/or lifting and carrying light objects frequently. A job in this category may require walking or standing to a significant degree or may involve sitting most of the time with long periods of computer work, heavy phone usage, and ability to lift and move items weighing up to 20 pounds.

Final candidates may be invited to interview with a committee. Final appointment to this position will be contingent upon passing a criminal background check.
