TITLE: Media Arts Teacher

QUALIFICATIONS: As set by the State certification requirements, (#047), or a CT State Certification.

PREFERRED QUALIFICATIONS: Bilingual, English and Spanish

REPORTS TO: Principal or designee

SUPERVISES: Teacher aides and volunteers assigned

JOB GOAL: To help students learn subject matter and skills that will contribute. To their development as mature, able, responsible citizens.

PERFORMANCE RESPONSIBILITIES:
  • Guides the learning process towards the achievement of National Core Arts Standards for Media Arts across the 6-12 grade band.
  • Prepares and carries out plans for instruction which, as much as possible, meet the individual needs, interests and abilities of students.
  • Employs instructional methods and materials that are appropriate, with consideration given to resources available, technology, program load, and other considerations.
  • Utilizes available technology in instructional settings.
  • Evaluates, communicates, and follows up on student progress on a regular basis.
  • Emphasizes competency in the basic skills of media literacy.
  • Maintains a classroom environment conductive to instruction and appropriate to the maturity and interests of students.
  • Establishes a positive climate for learning; encourages students to do well and to develop a degree of responsibility for learning.
  • Consults and collaborates regularly with colleagues, students and parents to improve student learning; as deemed necessary seeks assistance of school specialists for students with special learning disabilities.
  • Assist the administration in implementing policies, rules, and regulations covering student life and conduct.
  • Develops reasonable rules of classroom behavior and procedures and maintains order in the classroom.
  • Seeks to maintain and improve professional competence.
  • Performs such other related tasks as the principal may from time to time assign.
  • Plan, teach, and assess courses in all aspects of media arts to students in the 6-12 grade bands aligned with the National Core Arts Standards for media arts.
  • Utilize technology such as TV Production Studio, Radio Station, Computer Lab, iPads, Chromebooks, iMacs, Keyboard Lab, and more to facilitate student created media artworks.
  • Collaborate with teachers to facilitate integration of media arts across all content areas and grade levels.
  • Maintain and develop knowledge of state-of-the-art practices in educational technology
  • Promote student achievement through integrating the NCAS Standards for Media Arts, ISTE Standards for technology, the Common Core State Standards and the CT State Frameworks.
  • Maintain and build upon current technological tools and practices to foster student achievement and engagement in collaboration with appropriate staff
  • Collaborate with team members to facilitate showcases of student work and achievements in whatever capacity is needed
  • Collaborate with staff and students to facilitate HOT Schools programming and goals
  • Develop and implement media curriculum for 6-12 Grade band in collaboration with appropriate staff
  • Provide all students with an opportunity to develop skills in communication, media arts technique and terminology, digital citizenship, basic technology skills, as well as advanced skills when appropriate.
  • Provide several opportunities throughout the school year for students to share their developing skills, i.e. town meetings, extra-curricular activities, digital formats, etc.
  • Must have experience working with students in the 6-12 grade level band with technology and arts processes.
  • Encourage student artistic exploration within all the arts, guiding them to step outside of comfort zone, while also encouraging their existing artistic strengths.
TERMS OF EMPLOYMENT: Ten-month year. Salary and work year are determined by the Board of Education and the Teachers' Bargaining Unit.

EVALUATION: Annually by the principal or designee

SALARY: $44,323-$95,052 based on experience, degree and NLEA contract.
