(On-call Educational Support Trainer)

SUMMARY DESCRIPTION

Under general supervision of the Volunteer Services Coordinator, performs instruction in the following areas; Pre-K/Elementary Reading, Pre-K/Elementary Math, Elementary Writing, and other grade levels and subjects as recommended for parents and approved community/student volunteers. The volunteers are assigned to various schools in order to assist meeting the goals and objectives of the principal and teaching staff. The On-Call Education Trainer will be assigned to various Volunteer Services programs and locations to promote efficient and effective volunteer support resources/programs.

Under general supervision of the Parent University Coordinator, performs instruction of Parent University learning sessions on different areas of expertise. The Parent University trainer will instruct learning sessions at various schools sites and community based organizations during the school day as well evenings and some weekends. .

EXEMPLARY DUTIES/RESPONSIBILITIES

Provide instructional services for parents and approved community/student volunteers in the area of reading, math, writing and other grade levels and subjects as recommended for parents and approved community/student volunteers. Trainings are performed in a classroom or training room environment. Trainer must be proficient in subject area and instruction of program areas above with the ability to respond to questions and provide resources and explanations as available. Read & Succeed reading trainer teaches on how to perform an academic read-aloud with background information on struggling readers and emphasis on fluency and reading comprehension strategies. Math Path trainer teaches math games to increase math number awareness/relationships and increase math confidence. Elementary Writing provides hands on low level journal writing and word exploration. Other programs are added as requested and needed for curriculum support. As appropriate, trainers must be familiar with Nevada Academic Content Standards and training applications.

When assigned to Parent University the incumbent will provide instructional services for families in different areas of expertise. Parent University learning sessions are performed in a classroom or training room environment. Trainer must be proficient in subject area and instruction of program with the ability to respond to questions and provide resources and explanations as available.

When assigned to the Department of Family-School Partnerships, the incumbent will provide professional development to teachers on family engagement, presenting the parents' perspective in Family-School Partnerships. Trainer must be proficient in the in-service content in work in partnership with a certified trainer to teach the in-service course for certified staff.

The tasks of the on-call education support trainer will require a moderate level of autonomy, guided by the goals of Parent University, as well as the WCSD Strategic Plan.

EMPLOYMENT STANDARDS

Education/Experience: Any combination equivalent to education and experience that would likely provide the required knowledge and skills is qualifying. A typical way to obtain the knowledge and skills would be:

1. High school diploma or equivalent;

AND

2. Three (3) years of progressively experience in their field of knowledge. Additional related education or certification(s) may substitute for the required experience.

OR

1. Bachelors or Masters or Doctorate degree in field of knowledge or related field preferred.

2. Two (2) years of progressively experience as a teacher, trainer or facilitator preferred.

Knowledge of: Technology required for training equipment. In addition, when assigned to Parent University firsthand understanding of working with underrepresented families; demonstrated ability to communicate effectively.

Skill at: Working with small or large group facilitation or trainings experience; good communication skills; ability to read & write in English clearly; ability to work within district curriculum requirements; and the ability to communicate orally in large and small group settings.

Licenses/Certificates: No specific requirements.

Special Considerations: Must be able to work a flexible schedule, which may include morning afternoons or evening hours. This is an on-call position, working at various school sits and community locations during regular school hours as well as evening hours.

Full-time WCSD Employees are ineligible to apply.

Part-time WCSD Employees may be considered for the On-Call position, but only up to the meeting the 40-hour work week. No overtime will be paid.

Salary:

$35 per hour (Social Security Deduction)

Salaries are subject to adjustment and may increase and decrease each fiscal year.

Additional Job Information:

Applications are taken on an on-going basis. As positions become available, applications will be reviewed by administrators and interviews/hiring will take place. On-Call and Temporary positions do not qualify for benefits. Part-time WCSD employees may be considered for the On-Call Education Support Trainer position not to exceed 40 hours per week.

Employees who are regularly scheduled to work less than 20 hours per week receive Social Security benefits, and the Salary Increases, Longevity Bonuses, and Credit Union benefits; employees who are regularly scheduled to work 20 to 24.75 hours per week received PERS retirement benefits, and the Salary Increases, Longevity Bonuses and Credit Union benefits listed below; employees who are regularly scheduled to work 25 to 27.25 hours per week receive the benefits listed below, with the exception of Medical, Dental, Vision Insurance; employees who are regularly scheduled to work 27.5 hours per week or more receive full benefits of the District.

Holiday: Employees receive up to eleven (11) paid holidays each year. Vacation: Employees receive up to twenty (20) days of paid vacation each year. Sick Leave: Employees receive up to fifteen (15) days of paid sick leave each year. Medical, Dental, Vision Insurance: Employees may select an insurance plan wherein WCSD contributes 100% of insurance premiums. Employee paid dependent medical insurance is available for an employee's dependents. Insurance Premiums - Summer Months: WCSD contributes 100% of the district paid portion of employee's insurance premiums for employees who are not scheduled to work in the summer. Life Insurance: The District contributes 100 % of employee's life insurance premiums. Salary Increases: In addition to any negotiated increases each year, employees receive salary increases of approximately 2.85 % each July, for the first fifteen (15) years of employment. Longevity Bonuses: Eligible employees receive annual bonuses as follows: 12-14 years of employment, $700; 15-17 years of employment, $1,000; 18 + years of employment, $1,100. Credit Union: Outstanding benefits are available through the Credit Union.

No State Income Tax. No Social Security deductions for most positions working 20 hours per week or more. Retirement benefit offered is the State of Nevada retirement system, Public Employees Retirement System (PERS), which is one of the best in the country.

PERS ELIGIBLE POSITIONS:
Employees who select the employer paid salary schedule (Schedule A) will have Washoe County School District (WCSD) contribute 100% of the employee's retirement contributions. Employees who select the employer-employee paid salary schedule (Schedule B) will have a portion of the legislatively designated amount paid by WCSD to PERS for retirement benefits and the employee, in turn, will pay the remaining portion of the legislatively designated amount of his/her salary to PERS. These options are introduced and explained in detail during the New Employee Orientation upon selection for employment.

New employees will be fingerprinted upon hire and every five years thereafter and will have $58.50 deducted from their first paycheck to help defray the cost of fingerprinting. Non-licensed employees will have $58.50 deduction when their fingerprints are completed every five years. Fingerprint fees are subject to change.
