JOB DESCRIPTION
The teacher assistant reports directly to the Principal and works under the guidance and supervision of the principal or his designee. The teacher assistant maintains a cooperative staff relationship with all personnel functioning within the educational setting .
EDUCATION TRAINING AND EXPERIENCE
  1. Associate Degree, or 48 College Credits, or a passing score of 461 on the ParaPro Test.
  2. A Certificate of Completion of an approved Teacher Assistant Training Program, in addition to one of the above.
  3. Ability to work with children and to be patient, understanding, and effective in meeting their needs.
  4. Command of English language (read/write/speak).
  5. Must have an OSHA 10 card or other qualifying industry safety training
Preferred:
1. Minimum five (5) years of recent (within last seven (7) years) trade based or equivalent full-time employment directly related to any CTE area
DESCRIPTION OF DUTIES, RESPONSIBILITIES AND CURRICULAR LINKAGES
:
The duties of the teacher assistant encompass a broad spectrum and include but are not limited to the following:
  1. Participate in daily and long-range lesson and classroom activity planning for students with IEPS and/ or 504 plans.
  2. Conduct learning exercises with small groups of students as needed with IEPs and/ or 504 plans.
  3. Guide all students in developing positive relationships with peers and adults.
  4. Assisting with the supervision of pupils in the classroom, corridors, school yards, lavatories, cafeterias, etc. and on field trips with students with
  5. IEPS and or 504 plans. .
  6. Assist the teacher with CTE specific accommodations and modifications of individual students.
  7. Collecting and distributing educational materials as needed.
  8. With teacher supervision, correct students' work and prescribe additional work to remediate students' weaknesses.
  9. Assists the teacher to meet the many personal and physical needs of the child.
  10. Under teacher supervision, participate in discipline procedure and prescribe consequences for student behavior.
  11. Assists students with preparing for CTE competitions both local and national.
  12. Assists students and instructors with industry related testing and other industry preparations as need for work place learning.
  13. Commit to attend ongoing professional development sessions; such as those offered by RIDE, the Providence School Department, and Local Union 1033.
  14. Perform additional teacher assistant duties as requested.
  15. Assist as needed in parent meetings.
  16. Will work with all CTE areas as needed and scheduled
