The Associate Superintendent for School Development is responsible for managing student discipline in collaboration with principals, overseeing programs affiliated with Family & Community Engagement, Alternative Education and Summer Schools, Adult Education, and Co-Curricular Activities, coaching and/or mentoring and supervising approximately five (5) principals, and developing and monitoring school improvement plans.
The Associate Superintendent for School Development reports to the Deputy Superintendent.

Major Responsibilities:
- Coach and Mentor/Supervise and Evaluate Principals (30%)
- Coaching and Mentoring/Supervising and Evaluating - Provide guidance and direction to and supervise and evaluate approximately five (5) principals in meeting district-wide and school goals.
- Communication - Work closely and communicate regularly as part of a highly collaborative executive leadership team to ensure cohesion among school buildings.
- School Improvement Planning and Monitoring - Development, progress monitoring and implementation of SIPs - establish and manage alignment of SIPs with District Goals and Objectives; ensure SIP use of district strategies; align stakeholders around strategic vision.
- Family and Community Engagement (30%)
- Design and Implement Parent Engagement Programs - plan and evaluate student and stakeholder engagement in educational programs and services; assess stakeholder satisfaction; provide parent education; identify, implement, evaluate and revise parent education needs and services as necessary.
- Develop Student and Stakeholder Listening Strategies - determine market requirements for educational programs and services.
- Develop Student Attendance Policies and Procedures - develop student attendance tracking methods, develop diversionary programs to address truancy; develop processes and practices to reduce chronic absenteeism and to improve student attendance; report process and outcome measures for student attendance.
- Management and Oversight of Summer, Adult, PreK, and Alternative, and Co-Curricular Programs (30%)
- Coordination of Programs - Coordinate planning, design and implementation of effective alternative education programs and interventions, including oversight of Summer School, Adult, PreK and Continuing Education.
- Co-Curricular Programs - Design co-curricular programs and services such as interscholastic athletics and clubs in keeping with engagement strategies and best-practice talent and character development models; develop guidelines for coaches, club advisors, and athletic directors.
- Other Duties (10%)
- Coordinate with and respond to Board of Education, City Departments and City Boards - Engineering Department, Risk Management Department, IT Department, Controller's Office, Planning Board, Board of Finance, and other Boards as needed.
- Collaborate with other Associate Superintendents, department heads, principals, etc.
- Develop, in collaboration with Directors and Coordinators, coherent and efficient district wide budget for School Development.
- Engage directly in matters of personnel and human resources.
- Recommend positions for addition and elimination as part of budgetary process.
- Participate in recruitment, hiring and staffing decisions for principals and other staff that yields high quality staff for School Development.
- Provide input to Deputy Superintendent in preparation for collective bargaining negotiations with certified employees on behalf of the District.
- Coordinate with State and Federal organizations as needed.
- Represent the Superintendent of Schools or Deputy as needed.
- Perform additional duties as assigned.

- Knowledge of and/or demonstrate the ability to learn and implement Operating Systems (i.e. Windows); Office suites (i.e. Microsoft Office, Google Docs); Presentation Software (i.e. PowerPoint, Keynote); Spreadsheets (i.e. Excel, Google Spreadsheets); Communication and Collaboration tools (i.e. Skype); Accounting Software (i.e. QuickBooks); Student Information Systems (i.e. Naviance, Power School); or any other technology deemed relevant for this position.
Qualifications:
- CT CSDE Intermediate Administration or Supervision certification (092) or eligibility.
- A minimum of ten (10) years of extensive and progressively responsible experience in administration and instructional services.
- Minimum of three (3) years of experience as a school principal.
- Experience in an urban district preferred.
- Demonstrated experience and expertise in Stamford Public Schools' strategic focus areas.
- Such alternatives to the above qualifications as the Superintendent and/or Stamford Board of Education may find appropriate.
