Job Details
The Coordinator of Youth and Young Adult Ministry is responsible for growing next-generation disciples to be active and future participants of the Pastorate of Our Lady of Grace in Parkton and The Catholic Community of St. Francis Xavier in Hunt Valley, and the Universal Church. The CYYAM will minister to middle and high-school aged youth, and young adults.
Essential Functions:
- Work with staff in the implementation of the vision and Mission of the Church for the engagement of youth and young adults, consistent with Pope Francis' apostolic exhortation, Christus Vivit (2019)
- Develop and manage integrated, sustainable programs in faith formation, service, and social justice for youth and young adults in the Pastorate and broader community.
- Recruit, encourage, lead and mentor a team of peer ministers (youth volunteers) who will lead and facilitate specific ministries and programming within youth ministry, and accompany other youth in their faith journey.
- Recruit, encourage, lead and mentor a team of adults to assist in youth ministry and to encourage youth to grow in their relationship with Jesus Christ into their young adult years and as a lifelong commitment.
- Develop ministry and service opportunities that will actively involve youth and young adults in the life and leadership of the Pastorate, and that will accompany youth and young adults in the growth of their Catholic faith and personal relationship with Jesus Christ.
- Direct Confirmation formation through catechesis, service, and retreats, to prepare candidates for reception of the Sacrament. Recruit, train, and support a team of adults to give talks and mentor small groups. Collaborate with other staff in the Pastorate and Archdiocesan offices; effectively communicate with parents and sponsors throughout the process.
- Develop and maintain presence on electronic media, especially social media and the Pastorate website, to minister to youth and young adults.
- Connect and collaborate with other youth ministries and groups in the Pastorate and local community.
- Prepare and monitor annual budget.
Job Requirements:
The successful applicant must be a confirmed and practicing Catholic able to participate fully in the Sacramental life of the Church
Required Education and Experience:
- Bachelor's in Theology/Religious Studies or related field required
- Experience in working/volunteering in the parish/diocesan level, in youth and/or young adult ministry
- A passion for the Catholic faith, and the ability to accompany youth and young adults in developing and maintaining a personal relationship with Jesus Christ.
- Ability to recruit, manage and coordinate teams of adult and teenage volunteers.
- Proficient with all forms of social media and their use in faith formation.
- Excellent listening, interpersonal, and collaborative skills
- Awareness of pop culture, trends, and current events relevant to the next and younger generations.
