GENERAL DESCRIPTION OF DUTIES
The purpose of the job is to assist in the administration, coordination and management of all elementary school campus and academic activities. Employees in this job classification assist the Principal in the development, administration, and monitoring of educational programs, optimizing academic opportunities, and promoting safe and successful development of each student. Position is accountable for enforcing academic integrity, compliance with the faculty contract, appropriate credentials of teaching faculty, and the achievement of academic objectives through instructional programs, and accomplishes such in coordination with Schools Board goals and initiatives. Performs related work as directed.

SPECIFIC DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES

  • Assists in the planning, organization and implementation of all School Board goals and objectives; coordinates and integrates all activities toward achievement of established goals and objectives; assists in the development and implementation of School policies and procedures.
  • Provides effective leadership to the elementary school community in fulfilling the goals and objectives as such relates to the short and long-range initiatives of the School Board.
  • Keeps abreast of changes and development in the profession by attending professional meetings, reading professional journals, and discussing trends of mutual interest with others in the field.
  • Plans, attends, and conducts staff meetings to discuss policy changes, instructional programs, potential problems, and resolutions of existing problems and other school related issues; interprets and enforces all district policies, State Statutes, and State Board Rules.
  • Participates in the recruiting, screening, hiring, training, assigning, and evaluating of the school's personnel; assists in the supervision and evaluation of all personnel.
  • Enforces policies and procedures to provide control and leadership in the event of school crisis and /or civil disobedience.
  • Assists in the development of guidelines for desirable student conduct with respect to the district's suspension and expulsion policy and procedures; assists in the development of attendance, conduct, disciplinary, health, and medication procedures.
  • Participates in School Advisory Councils, Parent-Teacher Organizations, and other community groups promoting the enhancement and development of school programs; promotes positive school/community relations.
  • Supervises the guidance program and curriculum to enhance individual student education and development; supervises the school's teaching process, i.e., master schedule and teaching assignments based on student needs.
  • Performs other duties as necessary.

MINIMUM QUALIFICATIONS Knowledge / Skills / Abilities
  • Ability to understand, follow and direct written and oral instructions.
  • Thorough knowledge of State and Federal laws and regulations governing academic administrative policies and procedures.
  • Thorough knowledge of administrative principles, practices and procedures of all phases of academic administration; considerable knowledge of recent developments, current literature and informational resources in the field of academic administration.
  • Ability to exercise sound judgment and discretion in decision making throughout all phases of responsibilities.
  • Skill in effectively planning, directing and supervising a staff comprised of professional and management engaged in carrying out school functions.
  • Skill in establishing and maintaining a professional effective working relationship with instructional staff, all levels of personnel, School Board members and the general public.
  • Ability to access, operate and maintain various software applications; ability to read, update and maintain various records and files.
  • Ability to operate basic office equipment, e.g., computer terminals, printers, copy machines, telephone systems, facsimile machines.
  • Knowledge of business English and spelling; knowledge of basic math.
  • Skill in clearly communicating information both verbally and in writing.
  • Ability to perform duties with a professional and cooperative work ethic; ability to maintain confidentiality.
  • Ability to work flexible hours necessary for the efficient operation of the department.
  • Thorough knowledge of basic school district work policies and guidelines; thorough considerable knowledge of School Board practices and procedures.

Education / Certifications / Experience Master's degree in Educational Leadership, Educational Administration, or an academic discipline; supplemented by two (2) years responsible professional experience in the leadership, organization and supervision of academic affairs within a similar education institution; or an equivalent combination of education, training, and experience. Successful completion of certification in Administration/Supervision, Educational Leadership, or School Principal.
