The district-based Occupational Therapist provides occupational therapy services to students age birth-21 in a variety of schools to promote student success and assist the District in its mission to ensure that every student develops the enduring knowledge, skills and character to thrive in a changing world.

SUPERVISION

Receives direct supervision from the Special Education Director.

ESSENTIAL DUTIES

  • Screenings, evaluations, IEP planning and implementation meetings, and direct and indirect therapeutic services.

  • Meets all legal requirements, including timelines for professional practices in accordance with educational law and district policies and procedures. Items may include, but not limited to, 504, RtI, MTSS, etc.

  • Provides Response to Intervention (RtI), screenings as appropriate and observations to identify students with therapy needs.

  • Develops and implements IEPs and participants in student/parent meetings.

  • Consults about appropriate adaptive equipment and trains students and staff for proper use.

  • Provide group and individual therapy and services. Adapts services based on the academic, personal/social and career needs of students.

  • Participate as a case manager for students with Occupational Therapy services • Educates teachers, family members, and others about the impacts of disability on educational performance and the potential benefits of adaptations or accommodations on the IEP.

  • Tracks time and other requirements for Medicaid reimbursement.

  • Utilizes materials and develops programming and services that honor diversity within the home, school and local and global communities based on culture, diverse demographics and socio-economic status.

  • Educates teachers, family members, and others about the impacts of disability on educational performance and the potential benefits of adaptations or accommodations.

  • Coordinates communication and information to and from families, school staff and leadership, other special education team members, including BOCES.

  • Assessment and progress monitoring of therapy services.

  • Schedules in and out of class support.

  • Other duties as assigned.

    QUALIFICATIONS


  • Knowledge of:

    Continuum of occupational services, including prevention and intervention strategies.

    Standardized and non-standardized assessments

    Special education rules and regulations

    Students with disabilities

    Knowledge of using data to promote student achievement

    Positive discipline and classroom management techniques

    Crisis Prevention Intervention (CPI)

    School, district and community resources

    Pertinent Federal, State and local laws, codes and regulation

    English usage, spelling, grammar and punctuation

    Modern office procedures and methods

    Principles of business and letter writing and basic report preparation

    Ability to:

    Establish professional relationships within the school and the school community to enhance student achievement

    Work with diverse populations and cultures

    Respond to crisis across the district

    Make presentations as required

    Operate and use modern office equipment including a computer and various software packages

    Communicate effectively in written and oral form

    Collaborate with and make recommendations to students, parents and school personnel

    Establish and maintain effective working relationships with those contacted in the course of work

    EXPERIENCE & TRAINING GUIDELINES

    Education and License or Certificate:

    Bachelor's or master's degree from accredited occupational therapy program.

    Current certification from the National Board for the Certification of Occupational Therapists (NBCOT)

    State of Colorado Occupational Therapy Registration and Colorado Department of Education Related Service Provider License.

    WORKING CONDITIONS

    Office and outside environment; exposure to computer screens and use of a keyboard. The noise level is usually moderate. Must be able to travel from site to site.

    While performing the duties of this job, the employee is frequently required to sit, walk and stand. Occasional lifting of 25 pounds or less. Ability to position students as needed to provide health services. Exposure to adaptive equipment and assistive technology.

    Pay Range

    $50,000 -$71,804 **Based on education and years of experience

    **Annual salary noted above is based on an 8 hour day (FTE 1) and full days worked calendar. Any position that is less than a full FTE/8 hours per day or late start will be prorated accordingly.
