Qualifications:
  • Valid Washington Teaching Credential with an elementary endorsement
  • Degree emphasis in early childhood/elementary education
  • Successful experience as a classroom teacher
  • Demonstrated ability to work with staff and community in a personable, friendly, supportive and organized manner
  • Evidence of experience and training needed to perform the functions of an elementary teacher
  • Experience and/or training in areas of technology usage in education
  • Knowledgeable in current curriculum school restructuring strategies
  • Evidence of strong standards of discipline
  • Evidence of ability to work in a team approach to instruction and inclusion
  • Willingness to coach or direct other school activities desired
Expectations and Responsibilities:
  • Participate in the growth of an effective school climate that creates a learning environment sensitive to diverse socioeconomic groups
  • Facilitate, plan, organize and implement flexible classroom and leadership curriculum in a community based environment

Patrons of Onalaska School District share a pride in educating their children in a rural setting, yet living close enough to larger cities to give the children a broad view of society.
The facilities are attractive, spacious and well maintained through local support from levies. The staff members are well qualified, care about the students and are actively involved in continuing education through area college courses. Onalaska has a newly remodeled elementary building, a high school which also received extensive remodeling to keep pace with changing educational trends in Science, Libraries and Business instruction, and a Middle School built in 1990. The Onalaska School District has 794.33 FTE students, 69 classified employees and 53 certificated employees. The District has a highly regarded Special Education program that is a model for many other school's programs. Onalaska is fully networked within the district and offers all staff and students internet accounts and web connection from over 400 computers. The business lab uses the latest voice recognition software for students. Join a new way of instruction where the student is the doer. Onalaska's greatest asset is its interested and supporting patrons who believe in the education of children.

THE COMMUNITY

Residents of Onalaska are proud of the logging background of the community and point out the 200 foot smoke stack as a community landmark. Onalaska has a revitalized lake, newly stocked and open for fishing. Hunting is also readily available in nearby hills. There are churches, a fire department, ambulance services and opportunities to participate in civic organizations. Onalaska has a growing business community and provides for basic shopping needs.

ONALASKA HIGH SCHOOL

The high school, built in 1971 was remodeled during the 2004-2005 school year. It is home to grades 9-12. A full academic and vocational offering is available for students in a 7 Period Day. The major high school emphasis is on writing and communicating skills. A local scholarship program encourages students to excel. The music program with Choir, and both Concert and Jazz Band is highly recognized. Onalaska High School students have a reputation of being very well behaved and discipline policies are very strict with positive motivation a vital part of the process. A very competitive sports program is available for students as participants, and teachers as coaches. Onalaska is a WIAA "2B" classification school district. Excellent sports facilities are available and maintained in the community.

ONALASKA MIDDLE SCHOOL

The middle school opened as a new building in 1989-90. The nearly two million dollar building exemplifies some of the most modern techniques and thinking in education, with a full science lab, a computer lab, music room and full gym. Continuing development is ahead in the middle school.

ONALASKA ELEMENTARY SCHOOL

The elementary school houses grades K-5 and is attached to the new middle school, although separated by the office and library. A complete remodel of the 1958 building took place in 1993.
