Job Title: Digital Learning Developer

Department: Launch Virtual Learning

Work Schedule/FLSA Status: 12 Months, Exempt

Reports to: Manager IV - Course Development

Pay Grade: P130

General Purpose

This position is responsible for developing the design of online courses for virtual delivery. Digital Learning Developers work with subject matter experts to adapt curriculum for virtual learning environments and design the content into the school district's learning management system.
Essential Functions
  • Create engaging content in Canvas LMS with the aid of subject matter experts
  • Create custom engaging content using various technical languages and applications
  • Create custom multimedia to aid in the delivery of course materials
  • Determine best digital delivery methods for instructional content
  • Follow the course development process outlined by Manager II - Course Development and track progress using the project management system.
  • Revise and improve courses as directed or needed
  • Collaborate with project teams and serve on focus groups
  • Effectively communicate and understand technical changes and applications
  • Delegate tasks to other team members outside of the development team when needed
  • Work collaboratively and communicate with internal and external stakeholders
  • Perform other related duties as required/assigned


Qualifications and Requirements

Education and Experience
  • Bachelor's Degree in Computer Information Systems, Web Design, Instructional Technology, or area related to education or technology from an accredited college or university, preferred.
  • Successful digital course design experience or web design experience, preferred.
  • Experience with LMS such as Canvas, Blackboard, etc.
  • Experience with languages such as HTML and CSS (and JavaScript preferred)
  • Preferred experience with PHP, SQL, PowerShell, or Batch
  • Experience with multimedia software such as Camtasia and Adobe Creative Suite
  • Experience with Google Suite
  • Project management skills
  • Critical thinking and analytical reasoning


Certificates, Licenses, and other Special Requirements
  • Must pass a Criminal Background Clearance the results of which must be satisfactory to the District, required.


Knowledge, Skills and Abilities

Knowledge is required to perform basic math, including calculations using fractions, percent and/or ratios; read a variety of manuals and technical information, write documents following prescribed formats and/or present information to others; and solve practical problems. Facilitate group discussions. Specific knowledge based competencies required to satisfactorily perform the functions of the job include: basic html, learning management systems functions and design elements, Google Suite functions, Microsoft applications.

Skills are required to perform multiple highly complex, technical tasks with a potential need to upgrade skills in order to meet changing job conditions. Specific skill based competencies required to satisfactorily perform the functions of the job include: operating standard office equipment; using technology effectively to implement instruction and to manage documentation requirements; using pertinent software applications including Canvas Learning Management System; planning and managing projects; effectively communicating in both small and large groups; extremely effective organization skills; an understanding of education philosophies and practices.

Ability is required to schedule activities, meetings and/or events; gather, collate and/or classify data; and use job-related equipment. Flexibility is required to work with others in a wide variety of circumstances; work with data utilizing defined but different processes; and operate equipment using standardized methods. Problem solving is a necessity. Work Conditions & Physical Requirements
  • Work environment is primarily inside, where the noise and temperature levels are moderate, and can include outdoor responsibilities, with exposure to weather conditions.
  • The work is light work that requires exerting up to 20 pounds of force occasionally, and/or up to 10 pounds of force to move objects.
  • Must possess the physical ability to perceive the nature of sounds, make rational decisions through sound logic and deductive processes, express or exchange ideas by the spoken word, substantial movements (motions) with the hands, wrists, and/or fingers, and discern letters or numbers at a given distance.
  • Additionally, the following physical abilities are required: balancing, climbing, crawling, crouching, feeling, grasping, handling, hearing, kneeling, manual dexterity, mental acuity, reaching, repetitive motion, speaking, standing, stooping, talking, visual acuity, and walking.
