Position Title: General Maintenance Specialist
Location: Central Office
FLSA: Exempt
Reports to: Maintenace/Grounds Supervisor & Director of Operations
Terms of Employment: 228 days/ 12months
Start date: To Be Determined

Primary Function: The general maintenance worker will perform general maintenance and repairs for assigned equipment and facilities including plumbing, basic carpentry, changing air-conditioner filters, pressure washing, and painting.

Requirements:
  • Education Level: High School diploma or GED Certificate
  • Certification/Licensing: Valid Georgia driving license
  • Proficiency Skills: Written and oral communication skills, ability to deal with multiple tasks, organizational and interpersonal skills
  • Personal skills: Ability to lift materials and equipment weighing a maximum of 75 pounds. Prolonged periods of standing and Must be physically able to climb ladders, bend, or crawl into awkward spaces. Pleasant personality, cooperative attitude, physical skills, and stamina to perform essential duties.

General Requirements:

  • Maintains and improves knowledge and skills to promote proficiency in the operations of an organized, modern, updated, and efficient school.
  • Shows initiative and assumes responsibility for all aspects of job responsibilities; performs routine duties and tasks with little or no direct supervision.

  • Monitors compliance with policies and laws concerning areas of responsibility.

  • General Maintenance:
  • Maintenance and repairs on doors, and windows (including window replacement), replacing ceiling tiles, and installing bulletin boards.
  • Maintenance and repairs on building roofs, gutters, and masonry.
  • Maintenance and repairs on buildings and plumbing to include hot and cold-water lines, hot water heaters, toilets, and faucets With the use of sewer machines.
  • Maintenance and repairs on the playground equipment; assist with assembling new playground equipment.
  • Knowledge of tools and equipment associated with the performance of duties in a safe manner.
  • Works cooperatively with other members of the Maintenance Department, Supervisors, and other District employees.
  • Reports to Maintenance Supervisor about the status of projects.
  • Withdraws, returns, and recommends items for purchase from the maintenance inventory.
  • Maintains all tools and equipment related to the position in good working order.
  • Applies other skills for which employee may be trained and/or certified.
  • Uses appropriate safety precautions in all areas of job performance.
  • Provides assistance to other maintenance personnel at other locations when needed or requested and maintains accurate records of all preventive maintenance performed.
  • Performs other duties as assigned by the Maintenance Supervisor or Director of Operations.
