Position Overview:

Technology is woven throughout every aspect of the institution and plays a critical role in how Fessenden students and employees learn, teach and work. The Manager of IT Services leads the Cedric Paine Technology Office, partners with the Ciongoli Center for Innovation and Wheeler Library to support technology use across the institution, and serves on the Technology Advisory Committee in setting philosophy and direction around the schools use of technology. In managing the technology office, the Manager of IT Services supervises two full-time technicians and manages a third-party partner who provides network strategy consulting as well as supplemental technical support.

Essential Duties and Responsibilities:

Department Leadership
  • Oversee, maintain, and troubleshoot a network of over 1,000 computers/devices.
  • Supervise in-house technician responsible for printers/copiers, student chromebooks, and Smartboards/projectors.
  • Manage relationship with third-party partner, including supervising on-site technician, and partnering with consultants on network planning, maintenance, and strategy.
  • Collaborate with Ciongoli Center of Innovation and Wheeler Library staff to support faculty and staff technology needs.
  • Create a culture where all students, faculty, and staff feel confident and supported in their use of technology.
  • Take an active role in developing and implementing the schools long-term technology plan.
  • Serve on the Technology Advisory Committee.
  • Provide project management for all technology projects.

Support and Maintenance
  • Provide end-user hardware and software support to faculty, staff, and students.
  • Maintain end-user computers, upgrading software and operating systems as necessary to ensure that they have appropriate, up-to-date technology.
  • Serve as primary point-of contact for all network-related issues, troubleshooting as able and escalating to third-party consultant as necessary.
  • Maintain current inventory of users, computer hardware, and software.
  • Develop and maintain computer and network equipment replacement cycles.

Network
  • Administer, oversee routine maintenance, and ensure day-to-day operations of all network equipment across campus, including HP/Aruba switches, Sonicwall firewall, content filtering, and Cisco wireless access points.
  • Implement a robust cybersecurity program, including network access protocols, use of multi-factor authentication, and anti-phishing employee training.
  • Maintain server backups.
  • Oversee internet service contracts.

Budget and Procurement
  • Develop and manage budget, allocating resources according to replacement schedules and prioritized projects and needs.
  • Manages procurement of all hardware and software, including classroom A/V.
  • Negotiate leases for printers, copiers, chromebooks, etc.
  • Establish and maintain relationships with vendors.

Miscellaneous
  • Maintain and administer phone and voicemail contracts and systems, working with third-party vendors as needed.
  • Identify and raise key technology projects/priorities/needs/gaps/issues.
  • Install and configure iPad and laptop carts and computer labs in digital media and keyboarding studios.
  • Stay up-to-date on emerging technology and software.

Qualifications & Skills:

MINIMUM REQUIRED EDUCATION AND EXPERIENCE:
  • Bachelor's Degree
  • 5 + years experience providing technical support with increasing responsibility.
  • Ability and willingness to support users, endpoints, and infrastructure.
  • Strong interpersonal and customer service skills.
  • Experience working in and supporting a macOS/ChromeOS/Windows environment and using and supporting common software (e.g. MS Office, Google Docs, Adobe, etc).
  • Experience supporting Google Workspaces environment.
  • Experience supporting network hardware (wireless networks, switches, firewalls etc.) and related services, from the edge to the ISP.
  • Experience with day-to-day technical support issues (device issues, wifi/network problems, user management, etc.) and a solid understanding of network infrastructure and concepts.
  • Familiarity with concepts such as TCP/IP, DNS, DGCP, VLANs, VPN, iSCSI, RAID, etc.
  • Familiarity with current Windows server environments, including: Active Directory, file services, print services, group policy, etc.
  • Experience with current virtualization platform (preferably VMWare) and familiarity with related best practices (backups, HA, DR, etc.).
  • Familiarity with data systems (e.g. SIS, CRM).
  • Project management experience in an IT environment.
  • Budget management experience.
  • Strong organizational, administrative, and management skills, including ability to prioritize, communicate, and delegate.
  • Adaptable problem solver, able to adjust in real-time.
  • Ability to work independently and as a member of a larger team.
  • Successful criminal background check.

PREFERRED EDUCATION AND EXPERIENCE:
  • Experience providing IT support in a school environment.
  • Experience managing small teams.
  • Experience managing phone and voicemail systems.
