Job Title: School Food Service Manager

Qualifications:
-Excellent physical health
-Leadership and supervisory capabilities
-Ability to communicate effectively and supervise employees.
-Knowledge of purchasing, preparation of foods, recipes, and menu planning
-Aptitude for bookkeeping and cost analysis
-Meeting the state requirements for a manager position which are as follows:
A. Specialized Professional Preparation
1. Associate degree in food service management technology from a regionally accredited college or,
2. A high school graduate, has completed the food service training program under the sponsorship of the Department of Public Instruction or,
3. A high school graduate and has training equivalent to the above as evaluated by the Department of Public Instruction.
4. Having completed four unit (4) food service training units or being willing to do so.
B. Experience
1. A minimum of three years of successful full-time work experience in quality food production and service.
2. Experience validated by completing a trade competency examination as approved by the Department of Public Instruction.

Basic Function: Manage the total operation in all aspects of USDA, child nutrition programs in a specified school.

Responsibility: The school food service manager is responsible for all programs in the area of child nutrition in accordance with the rules and regulations of federal, state and local regulatory agencies. The manager takes direction under the authority of the principal of the school and the child nutrition supervisor.

Duties:

1. Display a thorough understanding of the purposes of all child nutrition programs.
2. Provide every student with safe and nutritionally adequate meals based on the meal pattern chosen by the school district.
3. Orders approved foods and supplies in the quantities need for service.
4. Receives, stores, handles, prepares, and serves food according to established food safety standards.
5. Trains, supervises and provides input on evaluations for child nutrition staff assigned to the school.
6. Assures that sanitation, health and safety standards required by State Board of Health is practiced, meet departmental standards in all phases of the operation
7. Supervise the operation, care, and maintenance of all equipment.
8. Maintains and submits accurate financial, participation, inventory and other required reports and records pertaining to regulations.
9. Establish a healthy cooperative relationship with all to whom or from whom services are rendered or received.
10. Cooperate with instructional staff in the development of nutrition education.
11. Provides a safe and pleasant working environment by encouraging teamwork.
12. Inform parents and community of the educational opportunities of the child nutrition programs through effective merchandising and marketing.
13. Maintains regular, on-time attendance.
14. Reacts to change productively and performs other duties as assigned.
