Academic Coach

Qualifications:

1. Bachelor's degree preferred. Further preference will be given for degree(s) in education, counseling, applied social science or similar orientation.

2. Successful experience as a teacher, counselor, coach or social worker.

3. Other work experience and/or related experience.

4. Such alternatives to above qualifications as the Board may find appropriate and acceptable.

Reports To: High School Principal or designee

Supervises: None

Job Goal: To assist students plan, develop, and execute individual learning programs and experiences that contribute to success in school.

Performance Responsibilities:
  1. Meets regularly with assigned students for the purpose of academic counseling, attendance evaluation, developing planning skills, developing communication patterns, developing reading and study skills and evaluation of student progress.
  2. Be available to students and parents for conferences outside the instructional day under reasonable terms and conditions.
  3. Works with individual students in devising sequences of educational experiences that lead to achievement of academic goals.
  4. Attends staff meetings and serves on committees as required and participates in all staff in-service programs.
  5. Consults with staff regularly on progress of students assigned, including case conferences concerning individual students.
  6. Becomes familiar with the agencies available to assist students and families with issues affecting the home/school environment.
  7. Consults upon approval of supervisor, with appropriate public agencies to find suitable ways to overcome problems for students.
  8. Treats school and student information in a confidential manner.
  9. Maintains written records concerning the work related to the position, such as appointment log with students, agency referrals, student program outlines, task log, time sheet, and similar records to facilitate the position and prepare summaries of tasks completed.
  10. Works with High school administration and other staff to plan, implement and evaluate programs and services to meet the needs of students assigned.

Terms of Employment: Salary and work year to be established by the Board with consultation and recommendation of the High School Principal.

Evaluation: The High School Principal, or designee, shall evaluate the performance of this position.
