Special Education Teacher

JOB SUMMARY:

Provides an educational service for students qualifying for Special Education services, so students have the opportunity to fulfill their potential for intellectual, emotional and physical growth. Responsible for organizing and implementing curriculum, instruction, assessment, and management; and working collaboratively to ensure a working and learning climate for all students that is safe, secure and respectful in order to maximize the highest possible student achievement. Responsible for the development and implementation of the Individual Educational Plan (IEP) and case management of students with disabilities.

MINIMUM QUALIFICATIONS:

Bachelor's degree from a fully accredited college or university. Possession of, or eligibility for, a current Washington State Education credential with appropriate endorsements in Special Education and for subjects taught. Strong work ethic and desire to develop and grow professionally. Ability to work as part of a team.

MAJOR DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES:
  • Develops appropriate Individual Educational Plans (IEPs), Behavior Intervention Plans (BIPs) and Functional Behavior Assessments (FBAs)
  • Develops and implements a plan to progress monitor IEPs and student progress, including determining present levels of performance, annual goals, and benchmarks for short-term objectives
  • Collects student performance data for progress monitoring and reports student progress toward IEP goals
  • Supports general education teaches in implementing appropriate accommodations
  • Schedules and conducts IEP meetings with parents and appropriate school and agency personnel
  • Maintains case manager records
  • Regularly reviews and provides updated information in the IEP system
  • Participates in evaluation and eligibility processes and activities
  • Demonstrates knowledge of Individuals with Disabilities Education Act (IDEA) and state compliance requirements and implements them accordingly
  • Coordinates teacher assistants in providing support to students with disabilities
  • Understands central concepts of curriculum, instruction and assessment
  • Plans, organizes and implements required content
  • Holds high expectations for students and self
  • Plans for a program for individualized and group instruction base on identified long-range goals and specific objectives
  • Demonstrates a desire to learn and grow professionally and to participate in professional learning opportunities
  • Uses a variety of techniques, strategies, and materials to engage, motivate and instruct students
  • Provides a positive, respectful learning environment that encourages students to grow, learn, and demonstrate persistence
  • Recognize, teach and model respect for other
  • Use appropriate classroom management techniques
  • Apply knowledge of child growth and development
  • Uses appropriate technology in teaching and learning processes
  • Communicate effectively, orally and in writing, with students, parents and other professionals on a regular, timely basis
  • Listens and interacts effectively with students, parents, colleagues, and community members, respecting diverse perspectives
  • Works collaboratively and respectfully with colleagues, administrators, other district staff and parents
  • Maintain effective and efficient record keeping procedures as required by school board policy
  • Offers students meaningful feedback on tests, assignments and student work and records and monitors student work accurately and regularly
  • Evaluate student achievement; use formative and summative assessment effectively
  • Act ethically and professionally in all circumstances, following federal, state and district policy
  • Demonstrate positive classroom results and trends
  • Performs other duties as assigned

Additional Job Information : TERMS OF EMPLOYMENT
Salary and benefits shall be paid consistent with District policy and Mossyrock Education Association Collective Bargaining Agreement. Length of the work year and hours of employment are defined in the Collective Bargaining Agreement.

Job performance will be evaluated in accordance with state statute, District policy and the Collective Bargaining Agreement.
