CLASS CONCEPT:

The selected individual(s) will administer the summer Book Mobile program from start to finish.

ESSENTIAL DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES:
  • Drive Book Mobile and disburse lending library books within the Hoquiam School District Boundaries including rural routes.
  • Ability to connect with students around literature.
  • Engaging students in selection of appropriate reading materials.
  • Greet students and parents in a friendly and professional manner at all times.
  • Keep written journal on the program noting number of participants, site locations,
    book requests, parent interactions and logistics of the program.
  • Prepare the Book Mobile before each day and re-stock at the end of the day.
  • Safely operate the Book Mobile following state laws and pertinent school district
    policies.
  • Be available during the months of June, July and August.
  • Other duties as assigned.
QUALIFICATIONS:

MINIMUM QUALIFICATIONS:
  • Washington State teaching certificate
  • Demonstrated positive interactions with students
  • Experience coordinating literacy programs preferred
  • Demonstrated experience in working effectively with a wide range of student
    abilities, both academically and socially, including at-risk students
  • Prior teaching experience with grades PK-4 preferred
  • Must possess or acquire and maintain a valid Washington State Driver's license
  • As a condition of employment, newly-hired employees must obtain FBI fingerprint
    background clearance and furnish proof of identity and employment authorization
    status
  • Demonstrated awareness and understanding of poverty and impacts on students
  • Such alternatives to the above qualifications as the Board may find appropriate
    and acceptable
DESIRED QUALIFICATIONS:
  • Interest in and evidence of continued professional growth in the area of reading, preferred.
  • Interest in and experience with reluctant readers.
  • Early learning, primary or upper primary classroom experience preferred.

LANGUAGE SKILLS: Ability to read, analyze and interpret common educational and research journals and legal documents. Ability to respond professionally to common inquiries or complaints from parents. Ability to present information to students clearly and appropriately.

REASONING ABILITY: Ability to define problems, collect data, establish facts, and draw valid conclusions. Ability to interpret an extensive variety of technical instructions in mathematical or diagram form and deal with several abstract and concrete variables. Ability to perform a variety of detailed work tasks at a fast pace using common sense and higher order cognitive skills.

PHYSICAL DEMANDS: The physical demands described here are representative of those that must be met by an employee to successfully perform the essential functions of this job. Ability to lift totes, move boxes and sit for extended periods of time. Ability to safely operate a large truck or van.

WORK ENVIRONMENT: The work environment characteristics described here are representative of those an employee encounters while performing the essential functions of this job. The noise level in the work environment is usually moderate. The selected individual will be around a vehicle, its emissions and noise.
