KIPP NYC Public Schools is a non-profit network of free, public charter schools that prepares students for success in college and life. In 1995 we started our first middle school, KIPP Academy, in The Bronx. Our goal was to graduate students with the strength of character and academic abilities needed to succeed in high school, college and beyond - and in so doing, to prove what is possible for all students. Today, our New York City network is comprised of eight elementary schools, nine middle schools, one high school, and KIPP Forward, a comprehensive support program for our alumni. KIPP NYC Public Schools currently serves more than 9,350 students and alumni and has a staff of more than 850. KIPP NYC is continuing to grow and opened two new middle schools and an elementary school August 2021!

Job Description

Position Overview:

The Regional Director of Social Work will be the primary coach and clinical supervisor for social workers and counselors in a cohort of KIPP NYC schools. The Director will meet regularly with social workers in each school they support to provide clinical supervision. The Director will be a resource for Principals and other leaders in creating the conditions for social workers to be maximize their impact. The Director will be available as needed for crisis management and crisis consultations. Together with other regional leaders, the Director will design and lead professional development opportunities for social workers, as well as seek additional external development opportunities for them. The Director will support in driving initiatives tied to improving student Sense of Belonging, including Mindfulness, Social-Emotional Learning, and Restorative Practices.

General Responsibilities and Duties include (but are not limited to):

Clinical Responsibilities:
  • Provide clinical supervision (individual and group/department meeting as needed) to social work staff at a cohort of schools
  • Facilitate LMSW's earning their C certification. Liaise with school based leadership teams and DS3s regularly to ensure coordination of guidance. Collaborate with SB managers to complete G&D's.
  • Conduct classroom observations and assessments, and/or provide consult on individual students as requested.
  • Provide ongoing training @ effective goal setting and progress monitoring.
Professional Development
  • Provide regional SW professional development sessions for KIPP NYC's Summer Institute and at regular intervals throughout the year for social workers with content specific programming.
  • Provide professional development at the school based level as requested (i.e. Managing Difficult Conversations with Families, How Trauma Affects Students in your Classroom).
  • Select and/or develop curriculum for essential Tier one topics: Managing test anxiety, Bullying (including cyber-bullying), and Safe Touch/Consent, assist with implementation and evaluation.
  • Identify and advertise external professional development opportunities for social work staff
  • Support managers in completing Growth & Development evaluations for their social work teams.
Partnerships
  • Oversee partnerships with external community-based organizations. Attend regularly scheduled school-based collaboration meetings, review partnership utilization and quality of care and assist in addressing all obstacles, ensure terms of MOUs are being honored, review overall quality (strengths and challenges) of partnerships annually.
Data Collection & Analysis
  • Revise and oversee data and progress monitoring platform for social workers.
  • Create statistical and narrative reports for social work teams, school leadership teams, and regional leadership.
  • Analyze data and cross-reference it with other key organizational data (attendance, suspension rates) for presentation at Academic Progress Tracking meetings.
Crisis Management
  • Train and support staff in the CPI model (Crisis Prevention Intervention).
  • Facilitate annual risk management training and maintain a toolkit of related documents.
  • Facilitate emergency organizational response plans and aftercare when there is a KIPP NYC crisis. Create an organizational policy @ best-practices for response to internal crisis.
  • Consult with schools during and after a crisis in order to provide prevention and post-vention support.
Social-Emotional Programming
  • Assist schools in identifying, implementing, and maintaining fidelity with whole-school social-emotional programs such as Restorative Justice, SEL, and Mindfulness.
  • Collaborate with Regional Student Support Services Team on Multi-Tiered Support System implementation (as needed).
Qualifications
  • 10+years of experience as a social worker, with 5+years of experience supervising and coaching social workers.
  • LMSW with LCSW preferred
  • New York State Licensed
  • Trained in trauma-informed practices and evidence-based practices such as CBT, IFS, Narrative Therapy, etc.
  • School setting experience preferred
  • CPI trained preferred
