Position Overviews

Assessments are core to the way the KIPP network seeks to support student learning. As part of KIPP Foundation's Regional Data Support Team, the Data Solutions Analyst, K-12 Assessments will help strengthen our network assessment strategy by working to support putting actionable, student achievement data in the hands of KIPP Leaders and teachers.

Working collaboratively with teammates on D&A, IT, K-8 and HS teams, the Data Solutions Analyst will:
  • Ensure KIPP regions have access to high-quality tools, resources, training, and professional development opportunities that build individual, team, and regional capacity around assessment products
  • Manage internal projects that support the KIPP network with implementing assessment strategies at scale
Key Responsibilities and Duties
  • Lead network training, product support, and resource development to strengthen the fidelity of assessment product implementation at KIPP (60%)
    • Become an expert user in K-12 assessment products used in the KIPP network (e.g., Illuminate, NWEA)
    • Be knowledgeable about common K-12 assessment types, their purpose, and data analysis use cases and limitations at all levels of the assessment system
    • Ensure network data staff receive timely training and technical support to drive best practices within a comprehensive assessment system:
      • Product Implementation : in partnership with vendors and teammates, support systems rostering, platform management, and resolution of data quality issues
      • Administration : develop and share resources that support administration operations
      • Data Access : provide guidance on how to access data and troubleshoot integration of sources within local data systems or reporting tools
      • Reporting Solutions : recommend the best in-platform reporting options for stakeholders, develop regional data tools that align with recommended data use protocols to enable actionable insights for teachers and leaders
    • In partnership with KIPP Foundation Academics teams:
      • Assessment Strategy: provide training, guidance, and technical support to regions in the development of assessment systems, with a focus on strong measurement and reporting
      • Data Analysis: coach KIPP Foundation and network stakeholders on assessment data analysis best practices
    • Develop and centralize reference materials and other resourcesto support ongoing regional training and professional development
    • Facilitate network collaboration to spur innovation, increase our collective knowledgebase, and work on solutions to shared challenges
  • Manage assessment vendor partnerships to ensure products and services are meeting the needs of KIPP regions and schools (15%)
    • Monitor the K-12 assessment landscape within and outside of KIPP to inform regional assessment strategy and product adoption plans
    • Serve as the main point of contact across the KIPP network for a set of assessment vendors
    • Work with vendors to influence product roadmaps and escalate issues raised by regional stakeholders
    • Oversee negotiation, procurement and contracting for KIPP Foundation and network-wide contracts
    • Build relationships with vendors via in-person meetings, conferences, and school visitsand provide opportunities for regional stakeholders to do the same
  • Support national assessment data collection efforts (15%)
    • Directly manage 3rd party and vendor assessment data collection and provide support for assessment data collected from KIPP regionsand schools
    • Ensure data sharing agreements, release notifications, and protocols are in place that support assessment data collection from KIPP regions and schools
    • Work with regional contacts to triage data quality issuesand implement process improvements
    • Support thecreationofmaterials and webinars to train network users in high quality data collection and submission methods
  • Support day-to-day team activities, including but not limited to (10%):
    • Fulfilment of data requests, including grant submissions, secondary research, and ad-hoc data sharing
    • Documentation of projects and workflows
    • Quality assurance, data verification, and copy-editing activities
    • Planning activities, retreats, and cross-team work as needed

Qualifications
  • Experience leading data and technology implementations in a K-12 setting
  • Customer-service orientation, with deep value placed on the end-user experience
  • Highly organized, with an ability to manage multiple short-and long-term projects simultaneously
  • Excellent written and oral communication skills
  • Comfort with ambiguity in a fast-moving environment
  • Passion for education equity and KIPP's mission and values (sense of purpose, results, respect, constant learning & humility, and diversity & inclusivity)
  • Intermediate expertise with Microsoft Excel required
PreferredExperience
  • Familiarity with assessments commonly used in a K-12 setting
  • Experience as a user or administrator of assessment management platforms (e.g., Illuminate)
  • Experience with adult learning/training
  • K-12 teaching experience

Work Conditions
  • COVID-19 considerations: Vaccinations and masks may be required in shared workspaces and job-related travel.
  • Travel requirements: may include up to 15% travel

Location

Location is flexible. This role has the option of working from a remote office full time, or out of any of KIPP Foundation's offices in NYC, Chicago, San Francisco, and Washington DC.
