Position Description: This position supports Sacred Heart Preps dance program by leading occasional classes and dance team rehearsals and supporting students to choreograph performance numbers.

Essential Functions
  • Leads dance classes and dance team rehearsals.
  • Instructs, supports, and rehearses dancing techniques and artistic craft in a broad array of dance styles (e.g., ballet, modern, hip-hop, tap, jazz, lyrical).
  • Assists students and/or other dance instructors to choreograph performance numbers.
  • Provides a safe environment for students that nurtures their social, emotional, and physical development.
  • Guides and prepares students to compete successfully in Bay Area dance team competitions.
  • As requested, provides additional support of regular and special performances for school programs, Masses and prayer services, community activities, concerts and festivals.
  • Other duties as assigned.
Qualifications
  • A clear commitment to the educational philosophy of the school as articulated in the Goals and Criteria of Sacred Heart Schools and professional behavior based in it. Commitment to equity and inclusion.
  • Relevant experience teaching dance to youth, in studio or school settings. Independent school and/or Catholic school experience strongly preferred.
  • B.A. degree in dance or a relevant field. Preferred qualifications include a Single Subject Credential, a Masters degree in Dance, Education, Fine Arts Instruction, or similar field.
  • Experience developing and sustaining small to large ensembles, for a variety of youth-related performances
  • Demonstrated ability to develop and teach a curriculum in conjunction with the Fine Arts Department.
  • Recent successful experience in directing and producing student dance productions.
  • Strong experience with all aspects of production including but not limited to selecting appropriate material and inspiring budding talent.
  • Collaborative spirit and collegial nature to support a positive working relationship with other fine arts teachers, the Theater Technical Director and operations.
  • Ability to work well with students and colleagues; willingness to be an active, enthusiastic member of the SHS community.
  • Fluency in reading, writing, and speaking in English. Additional skills in Spanish preferred.
  • Excellent verbal and written skills, as well as outstanding interpersonal skills.
  • Willingness to adapt to an existing curriculum as well as contribute ideas to enhance the respective academic programs.
  • Excellent attendance and punctuality.
Physical Requirements and Work Environment
  • Works in a fast-paced environment dealing with a wide variety of challenges, deadlines and a varied and diverse array of contacts.
  • Must comply with all state vaccination requirements and show proof of vaccination including but not limited to COVID-19 or proof of eligibility for exemption.
  • May work at a desk and computer for extended periods of time.
  • Be able to occasionally lift up to 40 lbs.
  • Able to regularly travel safely and comfortably over a 64 acre campus.
  • Work primarily in a traditional climate controlled studio environment.
  • Available and willing to attend and work some evenings/weekends.
