Position Summary:Under the direction of the school principal and following the requirements of the grant, the primary role of this position will be to provide behavioral health and social emotional skill development services to help students cope with challenges that affect their school performance, behavior and socialization. Through one-on-one, family, small group, classroom, or school-wide sessions, this position will address behavioral health and wellness concerns on topics relevant to the student population, such as school attendance, trauma related incidents, social emotional learning, suicide prevention, bullying, etc. When a student or family needs more robust services, this individual will assist with referrals to community resources that promote wellness and provide support for economic, emotional or physical challenges. This position will collaborate with staff teams as appropriate, and facilitate communication between parents, teachers and administrator(s) to provide a full view of the issues facing an individual student, family or group. Work with families may include engaging in home visits. In addition to provision of direct services to students and families, this individual will also be expected to support and inform on-going implementation of school-wide trauma engaged practices.

Minimum Requirements:
  • Master's degree in social work, counseling, psychology or related field. Will consider BA with additional coursework and or experience.
  • Must demonstrate knowledge/experience of the effects of trauma and poverty on children, adolescents and families.
  • Knowledge of federal and state laws and regulations regarding child welfare in school.
  • Understanding of social emotional development in children and adults
Preferred Requirements:
  • Relevant professional licensure, or receiving supervision and progressing towards mental health licensure (LMSW, LCSW, LPC, MFT, Psych).
  • Experience providing children's mental health services.
  • Experience in child advocacy and parent outreach in public schools.
  • Familiarity with Transforming Schools: A Framework for Trauma Engaged Practice in Alaska.
  • Training in Play Therapy, Sensory & Self-Regulation Techniques, Family Systems work.
Compensation: This is a part-time benefitted position .60 FTE during the regular school year (approx 22.5 hrs/week for 185 days). Starting wage of $31.76/hr. We also offer an excellent benefit package including medical, dental, vision, and the Public Employees Retirement System (PERS) plan.
