SCHOOL DISTRICT OF WAUKESHA Job Description JOB TITLE: Student Engagement and Attendance Specialist Reports to: Building Principal and Director of Student Services The mission of the School District of Waukesha is to develop in our students the capacity and skills to be community, college and career ready. SUMMARY: The role of the Secondary Student Engagement and Attendance Specialist is multifaceted, but the overarching goal is to ensure that students within the School District of Waukesha who are facing barriers to school attendance, resulting in truancy, are supported accordingly. This position will support the attendance, mental health, social, and emotional well-being of students. ESSENTIAL FUNCTIONS AND RESPONSIBILITIES include, but are not limited to, the following: Provides transportation for students on an as-needed basis and in alignment with board policy and administrative guidelines #8660 - transportation by private vehicle. Support school attendance and truancy processes. This may include school/home interventions, referrals to community resources, assisting with truancy referrals to Waukesha County, and associated paperwork. Works collaboratively with student services to support student engagement, remove barriers to attendance, and connect with parents/guardians. Serve as a check-in and check-out mentor for individual students. Maintain appropriate documentation of efforts in Infinite Campus. Provides home visits as needed to assess family circumstances and make needed referrals to community resources for problems interfering with the child's academic progress, social, emotional or physical development. Provides individual and small group counseling for students to address specific social-emotional needs and to increase engagement. Provides evidence-based and culturally responsive best practices when working with youth. Consults with teachers, parents/guardians, and student services about children's needs, social-emotional well-being, and other concerns as needed. Collaborates with school staff and community representatives in assessing student needs. Selects and attends professional development as required by the State and District. Maintains consistent, in-person attendance to support students, families, and colleagues. Provides face-to-face supervision to individual and groups of students as needed to support engagement in attendance Collaborate with the school social worker, attendance secretary, and associate principal to support habitual truancy processes. Meets regularly with the administration and SST team to refine and further develop the effectiveness of service delivery. Performs other duties as assigned. REQUIREMENTS: Experience working in mental health, counseling, social work, or related fields. Ability to work compassionately with economically and culturally diverse families. Ability to work with a diverse and multi-disciplinary team. Excellent problem-solving and organizational skills. Outstanding verbal and written communication skills. Possess a degree in psychology, mental health, social work or a related field. WI DPI License Preferred: School Counselor, School Psychologist, or School Social Worker Willingness to work out in the community, make home visits, etc. DRUG-FREE WORKPLACE: The employee shall remain free of any alcohol or non-prescribed controlled substance abuse in the workplace throughout his/her employment in the District.
