The Literary Arts program at Pittsburgh CAPA 6-12 is seeking a creative writing adjunct to begin at the start of the 2022-2023 school year to work 15 hours a week at a competitive hourly rate with no benefits with students ranging in ages from 11 to 18 as well as to collaborate with the faculty on department wide projects and student showcases. The ideal candidate will have an MFA in creative writing, show a record of publishing, and possess teaching experiences, and an understanding of the best pedagogical practices for teaching creative writing. The applicant will inspire and bring enthusiasm to students from a wide range of backgrounds and instill a positive attitude towards writing for all. Qualifications

Candidates must be enthusiastic about the fundamental goal of advancing student achievement in an urban public school district. Candidates must be comfortable working on a team committed to better meeting the needs of our student population. In addition, we are seeking:

-Creative Writer with proven publishing history

- Master of Fine Arts in Creative Writing preferred

-Teaching experience with diverse audiences?middle school, high school, university and /or community settings

-Excellent oral and written communication skills

-Collaborative and creative team player

-Collaborative work with community arts organizations

Essential Job Functions

1. Introducing literary artists to a wide range of writers representing a diverse range of cultural voices through extensive reading requirements in each course.

2. Teaching students to think critically through creative problem solving, experimentation, and inventiveness.

3. Teaching the craft of poetry, fiction, dramatic writing, and nonfiction in a sequential and comprehensive manner that does not rely on the workshop method and emphasizes deep revision for literary artists.

4. Assisting students with the creation of a rich and diverse portfolios as well as ways to move student writing off of the page using new and emerging technologies.

5. Regular communication with students, parents and other CAPA Literary Arts staff to share artistic progress, encourage positive behavior, and resolve behavioral and artistic issues.

6. Other relevant duties as assigned by supervisor in support of the department's goals and objectives and the District's mission and strategic plan.
